Spares - Sharing the load

After talking to Stuart I am starting to wonder if it's really necessary for us all to carry 2 spares.

Byron and myself are running pretty similar size syres, as are brett and dave. Byron runs 27" tyres and mine are 27.2"

If both Byron and I carry a good spare tyre, and a puncture repair kit, we would both have to get more than one irrepairable puncture before we ran into trouble.

What do the rest of you think?? 2 spares each or one? For you guys with trailers its a lot easier to carry more spares but when you have only the car, another spare is a lot of bulk.

Just stick it on the bonnet ah la Landrover Defender :)

Do you have a second spare yet ?

If I was you blokes with same/similar cars, I'd be sharing more than spare tyres.

I am only taking one spare tyre, all of which are new. I won't be taking any other spares except for maybe a top and bottom radiator hose. Pretty much the same as I took last year except I had a cv joint that time. It won't be going this time.

I am just about to buy new spare tyres as my current spare is an old bald one... hence asking the question about 1 or 2

obviously byron and myself will be sharing alot more than tyres.. should work out good with such similar cars

I'm still taking two spares, mainly because my tyres are still the ones from the simmo and gulf trips last year.
I'm also taking my rak (remote area kit) because in the middle of nowhere nipping down to supercheap for some cable or something could take days and isn't at all funny.
Might not be able to have the sat phone I took last year either as my brother will be on a bike trip (simmo and the cape) at the same time so does the subie club have one or should we chip in for a hire ?

Take a serpentine belt, takes up no room and is $40 or less - you'll be happy for it after you try and steer without one

Well im taking the Jack and the tools to fix pretty much most things to get Us in early Libs out of trouble. One spare same as car and trailer and an on board compressor and pucnture repair kit as well as a spare front and rear CV and some grease etc. And 3 x 20L of fuel. and 80L of water.

Dont know if it helps anyone but i would rather cart a bit more than i need and not need it than to be stuck without.

So I take it nobody is interested in chipping in for sat phone hire ?
Would be about $3-400 depending on what set etc. Good insurance incase something happens ie medical emergency.

I will chip in for a phone, I think its only fair that everyone going on the trip should chip in. I think there is 7 vehicles going so Should only cost about $50 per car.

With regards to tyres, I have 4 brand newies on the car, brand new spare and have 1 month old coopers on the trailer, I have bought one of Wilburs premium puncture repair kits, also going to take a new 15 inch tube, and if I have room will through in another tyre carcass aswell.

Hey wilbur did a quick search and found this mob in brisbane.

Hey bryan, Grunt is all grunted out. has gone upstairs to watch telly. Same tyres as before i believe. After checking everything out, he found some he liked but later found they are not yet available in oz, so stuck with what we have. Have served us well in the past. You probably know what they are quicker than me having to go outside and read them. I know they are black and round...LOL what more do i need to know.
