Finke 2009 - pics and wrap up

Post by Outback bloke » Wed Jun 10, 2009 5:03 pm

Well it is over again for another year. As most of you would already know, Brumbyrunner did extremely well - finishing the race 4th in class and 33rd out of a field of 76 starters.

It was a strange feeling being at a major race meet with next to nothing to do to the car except fiddle. Stuart was right on the pace for the first half of day one. His times dropped off due to him doing some pretty major damage to the vehicle. He managed to break the engine cross member and bend the drivers side radius rod quite badly.

There was a minor scrape with a buggy rubbing down the side of the ute. There is slight damage but it is all cosmetic thankfully.

Bruce Garland and his crew went out of their way to get Stuart, his navigator Jim and the ute racing the next day.

Again his times were right on the front runners in his class. Shearing the drivers side cv shaft cost him a fair bit of time on the last stage of day two.

They finished which is the main thing and they have the dog spike to prove it.

Well done fellas.

Here are a few random pics I took.

The car would have struck terror in some drivers as it was catching them. He only had one head light for some reason. Same as the pro class buggies.

Crossmember was tig welded by one of Bruce Garlands crew (huge thanks to John)
My mate found a local wreck and pulled the sway bar off to reinforce the radius rod (thanks to the Alice hoses team for lending their welder) and Stuart straightened the control arm and welded some plate reinfocement on that.

Excellent result - Well Done.

Bugger I missed it!

Sounds like you did well, same for the brumby! So where's the pics of the damage - or have I missed some pics along the way?

I'll be looking forward to next year and seeing the works before then!

Cheers
