Who here is really interested in 4WDing Subaru's??

I've organized a couple of 4WDing trips in the time I've had El Inferno (my brumby.) And no Subaru people have showed up (expect my brother who lives in the same place as me and 1 mate who owns a 88 touring wagon.) So I'm interested to know, are you all just wanting lifted Subies to stand out? Are you serious at all in 4WDing? Do you just like typical camping trips where you need 4WD to get to the place? Do you want to go 4WDing in the future?
I see no need waisting my time trying to get some Subies owners together to have some fun offroad if no one is really interested...
Oh, btw, I'm thinking of going on another trip early this summer.. Maybe down to Robe and Beachport, maybe up to Loveday, or maybe somewhere new? Just want to get out with the Brumby a bit more. And maybe meet some new people. Not that I have any money to do so...
I'll update if I get a date and place organized.
I wonder when Subaru SA club is having another meet? I would join, but it looks like I'd be only interested in 2 or 3 of their trips in a year cos I'm more of the 'hardcore' offroader then the sight see'er.

A couple of others and my self would be interested , except we are in south east queensland . Also as for having liftkits to look good , if rubbing the belly of the car and having it on that much of a lean that someone has to hold it to stop it from falling on it side is looking good . Well i only have a good looking subaru. As you said about the dollar problem , it only alows you to go a couple of times a year, ditto. The subaru pictured is the one i take bush , but i also have to be careful with what i do, the dollars not only stop me from going bush very often , they also stop me from repairing the car if damaged , as it is the ONLY car i have . So if damaged , no transport. no trip to doctor for my boy. no shopping, no bill paying. So on and so on. .
If i only go bush once a year and get home with out breaking anything . i am one happy camper.

Phizinza,
I'd be interested in a trip around robe/beachport, somewhere close to the Vic border would be great. We also have the Little desert National Park which i've heard is good, i hope to get out there sometime with my mate (rangie enthusiast)...
I don't have a lift on my car, but after
last thrusday defenatly need one, and some larger rubber... but again, dollar factor kicks in.
If there was to be a trip organised well in advance i'd try my hardest to put my hand up and have everything ready for it. I also need to get some spares to gether as currently i travel close to home and don't see the need...
We in vic are also going through the same thing, everyone wants to get out for a weekend but no one can commit - me included at this time.
Hope something is sorted, i'd love to meet up with some interstate subi enthusiasts.
Cheers
Bennie

Still no South Aussies here... hmm....
I've started the planning process on my forum, if anything comes up I'll post it in here as well as in a new thread maybe.
I'm heading down to Naracoorte in late sept for other reasons but will get a couple of days to look around offroad, border track is suppose to be good. but thats just gonna be a family thing..
I hate planning trips, but looks like I'm the only one locally that will do it and actually follow through with it recently.

I'm not really into the soft stuff.. I don't want to be able to get everywhere, I like a challenge. So sand isn't really exciting to me. But a Robe trip would be alright with a bunch of people just for the evening stuff. Some simple hangin out and chatting is always a good reason to have a trip.
Once I figure this locker out I'll be wanting much harder stuff, eheh.

Just after November as in December or sometime in November?
Problem is the only time it's challenging (just about anywhere I've seen or been) is when it's wet.. But I guess I've had my fun in the wet for this year, I'll have to keep the rig in good condition for next year..

I guess that I am guilty of not taking my current brumby off road, as for lift kits I found in my last brumby you dont really need it, I went every where that mudrat and smoove went one day out the back of Canberra and they were both lifted

Yeah, you can easily put 27"s on a non-lifted rig, and much bigger and you have gearing problems. That's what I'm just keeping thee 2" kit in that came with my brumby.
But bigger tyres will come once the kumho's wear out.

Nothing yet, but it looks like a Morgan trip is in the making.. Haven't set a date yet, would be good if it would rain again this year as I hear it is actually challenging when wet. I'm thinking October at the moment as I'm going to Naracoorte this month, and probably going on a house boat Murray river weekend in November. And December is to far away. Never know, some time in October I might have this auto locker in and give it a good hard test at Morgan? hmm..

Hey Phizinza, just do what I do & go with people who drive non-subarus. It's very satisfying to see how their attitudes change when they see what subes are capable of. I also agree with rtcb65 about other commitments, finances and bringing it home in one piece. I've just returned from a trip to Birdsville via Cameron Corner, returning via Hungerford, White Cliffs and Menindee. Even climbed "Big Red" on the first attempt. Casualties - 1 bent strut & a broken headlight. 5,000km in 2 weeks, over 3,000 of them on dirt, some of it pretty rough. Not bad for a 1983 model? Just remember the 7 P's. Prior Preperation and Planning Prevent a Piss Poor Performance.

i would recommend heading up to Loveday if you get the chance, its a great place to have a blast and chill by (whats left) of the river murray......
plus theres a 4x4 comp up there at teh end of oct, great fun to watch, i think you will probly break a suby if it was competing....

Hey Plucky. I've been on plenty of little and bit cruises with the "big boy's." And yes, those that haven't seen the little brumby are amazed. But I'd like to catch up with some Subie guys and or girls. I'm wanting to do a Simpson run next year. Just trying to find a good time of year to do it. I've heard of Kombi vans doing it so I want it hard, but I don't want to go when they have closed all the good bits.
I've just been down the SE for 5 days on a non-4wd trip. Although We were in my brothers blue 4runner with 35" MTs and we did play for a bit on the first day. We mostly stayed at Naracoorte and done some caving again. Nice place it is.
I did talk to a guy prior to going who lived in Bordertown and he gave me a mud map of part of the border track and two quarries near Bordertown. We didn't check out the second quarry as the 4runners alternator stuffed a front bearing and we had to stop often to pour oil into it as it was seizing up (done it twice, so we stopped more often.) 140km is a long drive when you have to stop every 20km to "top your oil up." Lucky the 4runner uses a normal very common bearing and Naracoorte has a great auto/hardware store.
Looks like a Morgan trip might be coming in Nov or Dec... I'm not the greatest at planning trips in advance.
