Non serviceable uni-joints
Non serviceable uni-joints
Hey guys, just bought a Subaru outback 03 with failing uni-joints. Subaru recommend replacing the entire tail shaft as the uni joints are staked. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck sourcing and replacing a single uni joint... I'm cheap so just want to know if it's possible to do without messing up balance or integrity of the shaft?

Re: Non serviceable uni-joints
On the L series someone worked out what uni joint to use for this job. Some simple machining of the shaft where the yoke live will convert it to replaceable uni joints.
Sorry I can’t give more detail than than. A search online might show up what’s needed for this mod.
Alternatively, hit up U pull it for a second hand unit. I did that the last time we were in SA, I was lucky they had an L series in the yard. There was no way we were making it home with that tail shaft!
Cheers

Thanks Bennie,
I have watched a few videos now and think it's a little out of my depth. Don't want to mess with the balance of the shaft. I will check out u pull it for sure!
