I have a thread about it on offroadingsubarus.com.
I've got it in the shed now and I think I'll start (finishes what I started anyhow) on the gearbox. Should have a 5sp D/R 3.9 ready for it by tomorrow.

Oh sorry, you have to be logged in to see it. It's in the "Your Rides" category.

Gearbox is back together now, going to put the engine in, jack the gearbox up from underneath and figure out how much I need to bash the trans wall and where I need to cut and weld the crossmember...

Wootah! Just picked up 4 14" sunraysia's with rubber for 150 bucks. The profile is 60, so the height is almost exactly the same as before, and the rubber is quite good still, but at least now I have a base to build up from when I get the bucks to install a lift kit.

The Weizenbeir is bubbling along nicely, should be ready for the 22nd on the beach.

I used to drive my Brumby with FT4wd (AWD only with a open centre diff not vlsd) in sand no probs. Although my 215/60R15 directional street tread didn't go well at all on the sand.

If you don't fang it, I'd say she'd be fine. People in the US run no covers through mud pits so they are pretty tough.

Hi guys I was down Goolwa yesterday so I went onto the beach and I found alot of traffic. "Cookle season has just started" The entrance is soft and a little deep but I only let the tyre down to 30psi 'I didn't have to much trouble.' Just keep the rev's up and you'll get on the beach, once there you can stick it back into 2wd again. I didn't go to the mouth though.

Yeah, need to get some cockles too while down there for a bit of a fish. Went to Marion Bay recently and had to pay $14 for a tiny bag of those crappy imported cockles, absolutely criminal!

Alright, we've got 6 or 7 definites and 7 maybe's. But it looks like my subie won't make it. Insert in the exhaust stud broke out, I mean broke not stripped... Going to see if I can weld it if not I'll have to take it to a shop.

Also the trans tunnel is looking a little split at the moment so I'm gonna need to finish that off. Turns out sedans have much smaller trans tunnels then wagons or Brumby's.

With beach driving you'll want a shovel just in case. Shovel is better then a spade. If you get serious you can get some mattracks or make something similar as well.
Not sure what sntach strap rating I use, but they are 75mm wide and are getting worn. So if they were smaller I'd replace them now but since they are over rated I feel fine using them.

Righto - well I've got a set of front hubs with reasonable bearings in them, tomorrow I'll be picking up and fitting new rear suspension bushes and while that's happening a set of new rear bearings will be going in too.

This should allow me to attend the goolwa trip - I've spoken to Phiz about it and it looks like it will all happen.

How long would it take us from portland to goolwa?

10am at goolwa, see you then.

Cheers

**How long would it take from portland**
Is that Portland Vic?
If so I would say it would take six hours give or take.

Google Maps directions
I would say add half to a full hour to their estimates (that's what I've found in the past with long trips).

Sounds good mate. Have you got somewhere to stay in SA? I have a lawn in Yankalilla if you want to setup camp on it.

Thanks for the offer - I forgot to mention last time that all of mum's rellies hideout in adelaide, so we're never short of accommodation there. I'll have to plan a slow trip to adelaide - they seem to be getting shorter every time we go over... Soon we'll be there for just the afternoon or something before turning around to go home again

Ruby Scoo is all back together now too. Just need a wash, vacuum etc, pack the gear in and relax for a little bit before heading off.

Thanks for the times from port to goolwa. We'll probabily head off at 4am all going well.

Can't wait to catch up with you all!

Cheers
