Getting the wagon ready for RiverChallenge

Post by Phizinza » Wed Sep 03, 2008 4:35 pm

So the Mazuki isn't ready for anything yet, but we have a 83 wagon sitting there only needing a few parts. Well what to do?

This is from her glory days before it got stripped.

Perhaps?

Stick my old dual carb in it, wack some rear shocks in, fix the broken driveshaft issue, bolt a diff hanging back in, buy another 14" wheel to go with my set of 3 and the 27" M/T's, and much much more of cause.

I'll give some little updates as they come.

This is really just mainly to make people aware of the River Challenge so maybe you'll come up and check it out. Garenteed to see a Subaru flying.

Done a heap more work. Its running and running strong. Needs wheels and tyres but thats pretty much it. Easier if you just look at the thread over here instead of me double posting everything

I started it because I knew a few people in SA that didn't want to join or go back to AUSubaru for their own reasons.

Waiting on the last wheel to get in, and I couldn't wait. Had to test it out down the driveway.

Put the right 7pin round plug for the trailer on the 450SEL. Fixed the racers dissy (can spray with water and runs fine, no silicon). Got the camera mounted. And taken out the thermostat, gives a little longer drive time before over heating.
Getting the trailer tomorrow, loading up the genset, welder, tools, car, camping gear, etc and heading off Friday morning.
Hoping to see some fellow subiers up there on the weekend. I will be disappointed if you aren't.

Awesome weekend.. Still working on the video, but got some photos up
http://offroadingsubarus.com/lrc08.html

Started off bad, first heat about 30meters my brother drove into a large hole... Floated for a bit then sunk 10".. Water above the seats cooled us off for the rest of the day.
Next was my turn, hit the jump and broke a strut top, finished the lap still. Got back to the pits and welded some reinforcing in. Brothers turn next and we hit the jump again, this time ripping both strut tops and breaking our strapping of reinforcing. So we welded some thick plate in place for the next day.
Night drags was just for fun as the timing systems had failed. Got 3 runs, 2 against another subaru (called Kermit) and one against a 40series with a v8. Only just got beat by the 40 and beat Kermit by a lot.
On friday night when we rocked up Kermit was in need of a clutch so we helped them out and replaced the clutch in about 2 hours. Longer then it usually takes me but hada beer in hand always.
Then came sunday. We started heat 4 (first of sundays runs) on the outter start line for the first time and I wasn't sure how to hit the jump so I went AFAP (as fast as possible.....) Broke our plated strut tops and bent both seats. Also winded me and I couldn't breath for about 15seconds or more till the next corner (I wasn't sure if I had to stop or not). But I continued and finished the lap. Next lap we took easy and same with the final heat. We were in 3rd place in the points in our class by then and got into the semi finals. We beat the 4runner we were racing in the semis only just and thus got into the finals against a mate (Dougie) in his shorty MQ patrol. Aparently the crowed was unhappy with us taking it easy in the last 3 laps so I told my Brother (was his turn for finals) to hit the jump, not hard but get air. So we got some air and broke the strut tops again. Also because the shockers were slowly bending over the whole weekend it popped out on the right side and stopped us on the finals 3/4 thru the lap. So it was a 2nd place in class.
Enjoyed it a lot and will be trying to get to the next one for sure. Won some prizes and had sh** loads of fun.
