has anyone tackled the coorong in an L series?
im heading down there for the june long wknd and might be taking my car. going with a 4runner aswell, but just woundering what im infor in my car. i have been there a few times but now in teh last few years??

We took the beach from salt creek to kingston the beginning of last year. Was my Brumby, my brothers MY wagon and a Feroza. Sand was extremely soft up near salt creek, little softer then the murray mouth. I never had any troubles in the Brumby but my brother in his wagon did. We figure it was because of the 200kg of recovery gear he took. Feroza was fine too, only it couldn't climb the dunes down at Robe too well.

Feroza = Stock
Brumby had 2" lift, 27" Kuhmo M/T's
MY Wagon had 2" lift, 26" Goodyear TG M/T's

ahky, yeh im getting 14'' rims on it now and gonna try and keep my car farily light as possible.....
im just thinking that coz its a long wknd there will be a bit of traffic down there and the tracks will be more rutted than usual?

If you have 185 or wider tyres on the 14's air them down to about 12 to 15 PSI and take it easy. You shouldn't have any troubles if you keep the car light and don't do stupid stuff. Done much sand driving in the past?

i have 175 light truck tyers on it( the 185s were too close to the guard). ive done sand driving be4 but most of it was in my old mans nissan. ive done only a small amount in my L series and that was on the 13'' wheels and fully loaded with 4 guys in it, and a shit load of stuff.

Well, remember to take spades, and maybe even some stuff for "track ramps". My brother used some old construction steel (like 1.2m long 25cm wide) It worked well, but it was also what was weighing him down a little (along with the winch).
M/T's acutally make it harder in sand, so your LT tyres should be alright. Just remember carefull driving and 12PSI. I went down Goolwa in my dads L series, 13" wheels 185 tyres, and put them down to 7PSI. It was doing better then someone with 14" wheels, wide tyres a lift and a EA82t. Pressure is everything on sand (well, not everything but a lot of it anyhow).

ahky cheers. ill make up some ramps. (i think ill make mine out of wood with aluminium grip) lighter that way.

Yeah watch out if it's a long weekend and you're not lifted. If there's been lot's of larger 4WD traffic it can get fairly chewed up. Brother in law managed to get his stock Outback very stuck a few years ago on a long weekend when the ruts left by the larger 4WD's just got too deep and he ended up bottomed out. They had to be snatched towards the water, then got stuck again there and things were getting fairly exciting as the tide was coming in.

can only but agree with the above.

the larger 4WDs cut up the entry / exit points - otherwise you'll be fine.

In typical SA driving style, expect little consideration for the time and planning it sometimes takes to navigate an L through more rutted parts. Stand your ground!!

Done it many times in my std L - more fun in the EA82T though!
