You will need to update to R134a gas. R12 is not available anymore. Are you sure your Lib runs on R12? I've only ever seen R134A on Libs.

Any good auto electrician can do it.

R12 is still available, if you know the right people. Some auto-aircon blokes will still top it up for you if they have some handy. Very few and far between I'd say by now.

they use a replacement gas instead of R12, apparently has lpg in so most dont handle it. Also apparently dries the seals out. My '92 RS was
R12, just got it changed over to r134 last week by an auto elec mate, The receiver/dryer has to be changed and the 2 fittings on the valves used to gas it / vac the system down but thats it, i reckoned it was worth it

with my aircon, worked fine last summer, but now when i push the button i hear no whoosh air sounds (not from the A/C stuff anyway :p) or rpm drop when you normally turn it on. is this just a regassing issue or is my switch screwed?

switch screwed.
The only real indication it needs regassing is when everything is apparently working fine but it just aint cold. Although there is usually a little window ontop of the canister thing down by the radiator where you can apparently see the gas, mine have always been too dirty to tell tho.

some have a pressure switch - no gas means the compressor wont start

i had mine re-gassed when i had my 200k service at RMS, they had to take the condensor out anyways to repair some bits. bloody cold now.

RMS service centre 9470 2444, if it needs fittings/parts to swap to the newer gas these guys would probably have them handy too. they are in Carlisle and arent mobile though
