hey guys
liberty is in serious need of attention now, no longer drives
the captive nuts hjoling the rear crossmember has completely torn all out, ie: nothing holding it in anymore. i need some serious help here, as i no longer have a car to drive around in.
just sourced a gearbox and all that **** and now this has happened. starting to be turned off by subaru's atm.
any help would be greatly appreciated.i dont know whether its worth welding up the captive nuts again, or welding the lift blocks directly to the chassis or i dont know
cheers
dave

This is just my opinion , others may think the other way , I would just weld the lift to the body.

If your confident the car will never be unlifted then just weld the lift kit to the car.
Otherwise you could remove whatever is left of the captive nut, weld a new captive nut to an appropriately sized metal plate, then weld the plate to the car.
(lapsed haha!)

this is a msg on behalf of dave, cos he wont have the net for a while
he is just going to weld the block directly to the car. The only problem he can see is that the weld will come very very very close to the fuel tank..

guess its gonna be alot safer to take the fuel tank out first before welding or drain it. wouldnt like anything to happen to his car or the welder

its done, we did it yesterday..the car is stronger than it was before, it will be lifted for the rest of its life though
my car is a different story, there is some very very very bad structural damage. Will hopefully be fixing it today, but will probably have to take it somewhere to get looked at and done professionally..

this is long run down to the fate(if it has any) of my poor poor wagon
did this afew months ago
showthread.php?t=4885
now im getting made pay for that little incident. I have totally torn out two captive nuts where the radius rod bracket goes into the chassis. I have also almost totally torn out a backet which hold the other nut into the car...it is very very very bad. Its not quite as easy as putting some plate in there and just re-welding the captive nuts to it. (very hard to explain) There are cracks, and weak bits of chassis everywhere. I will have to take it too an engineers shop and get it professionally fixed this week.
This week i will also be looking into getting a loan, and buying a newer liberty or something and turning it into a bitumen bitch..
All i can say is that im very disappointed in my poor wagon and im wondering if its worth continuing fixing it every second week...

I think we all have that feeling at times. But what it comes down to is that we are Subaru nuts and we are asking the cars to do more than what they were designed to do.
I think it comes down to how we drive them. The harder we push them the more likely something will stuff up. But every car is like that even newer 4x4's still break and they also cost a lot more than an l series. hope it is fixable and not to hard on the wallet. and I think a ricer lib will suit you as well. HEHEHE. But then you can hop in to your manly L series and have fun.

Sh** happens, accidents do too (although they are more likely to happen at high speed on a track in the Pines!).
Tis not the car's fault I guess, just some bad luck. I hope it's not too expensive to fix. Maybe Vidler could check it out but he's away for a while.
I wonder if you could claim insurance for the job, after all it was basically a car accident that caused it...
