The rental places will-not loan you a trailer unless you have a towing vehicle which weighs MORE than the trailer + the load. ie...you need a 2.5 tonne 4x4 rig.
No...not even a V8 commodore. They just won't do it. Rules have been changed.
(you might be lucky and snag a place that will bend the rules but I've tried several unsuccessfully recently).
I've got a mate with a car trailer, I've borrowed it plenty of times and just used my wagon with it. Unfortuntely I don't actually have any favours up my sleve with him at the moment...I seriously don't think i can get it for this weekend

I got a tow bar now... lets test it with the Hatch.... Im sure Tim recently hired a car trailor and towed it with his Ford with no problems.
I have heard the same as Andrew... but have never actually heard of anyone not being aloud to take a car trailor cos there car is too small. Could just be a rumour or proposed law.

law "did" state that the towing vehicle must be of equal or higher weight of trailer + load, and the last many times ive been ther they have also said that they require a minimum of 6 cylinder engine in the car

paying for a tilt tray would be a problem free alternative... not sure on the prices though... don't do it at like 4am in the morning though.

Yeah I forgot to add that......you can just pick the trailer up with a big 4x4 then use any car to tow it :P
However there is actually some sense to the newer laws...having used my L series wagon, and also a Sigma wagon once it really doesn't feel safe. Considering a car like this is rated to tow around 400kilos max and this Lib + trailer would be well over two tonnes!
The trailer I use is brake assisted but yeah, had to drive very slowly.

if ya keen for a tilt-tray i might be able to get a deal.....ill need the details of were the car has to come and go from and you wont be able to pick a time it will be when the truck has time.....let me no anyway and ill see what i can do....(i work for the RAC sometimes we can get cheap deals with the tow guys)
