Factory !!! bwahahahahahahahaha.. I'm sure some rich kiwi will fall for that ;-)

Subaru Rally Team International did not run the MY coupe in the rally. They used the Swingback and they did not use the dual range box. The 86/87 championship was run using the "L" RX sedan.

This is nothing more than a MY coupe with the aero adapted EA81 and a set of coil overs but nice find Pete.

Certainly looks like one of the factory supplied rally engines...

could it be possible that it was just ran in the new Zealand rally series?

Did not quite get the 86/87 reference and thought maybe it was maybe an EA82 with mpfi heads - for two inlet ports. Oh well, if the last owner told the new owner ....it's all fakt ain't it !

What was LG336 ?

Not the ones we ever rallied. I'm sure there are others out that that could have been modified like this but the ones we used were the EA81S engines.

No roll cage, no racing restraints, no body strengthening, etc...

Sure it may have been used in some local gymkhanas but definately never in the WRCNZ stages.

Never heard of it.. this is why I think this a code for the aero engine.

Yeah Im with Paul, it would most likely be an EA81 with RAM or SUB4 twin port heads.
Adjustable front and rear heights
All the running gear from LG336 Rx coupe used in 1986/87 International.
At a guess this may mean the front and rear adjustable struts are from an L series coupe that was used for rally.

I'd nearly kill for a set of those rear adjustable struts to put on my RX.

Mr Fabricator told me the weber bolt ons were directly over heads, sort of looks like picture ......I'll have to see if I can find him. His name is just so close to tip of my tongue.

Now that is an interesting engine! Paul you say aero adapted, can they really adapt the heads to have 2 exhaust outlets each? I can't tell clearly from those photos but it looks like they have the intake valves on the inside; no telltale casting of the intake passage snaking around to the outside...

Whatever it is I bet it goes pretty well :D

My old MY wagon had all this. I all ways wondered what it came out of

Factory Webers and big port heads
Factory high compression pistons, cam and crankshaft with x drilled crank
5 speed close ratio hi/low gear box with center diff lock up via vacuum solenoid
factory plated LSD R160
Adjustable front and rear height suspension
2" headers
ran a electronic fuel pump & surge pot.

hopless going up sand dunes

Still makes me laugh, "factory webers and big port heads" these are NOT factory. If they came out of the Subaru factory they would look like chicken sh*t welding.

As for the HC pistons, cam and crank.. these are all items out of the EA81S.

5 speed high/low box came out in the L, so in a MY it was fitted afterwards, as these needed longer tailshafts and because the MY didn't have the centre mounting point. The MY box had a longer 4WD transfer casing to allow for the one piece shaft. Also the centre diff lock wasn't available till much later.

First plated LSD was only released in the L RX. Even the EA81T wasn't LSD.

All 4WD MY series cam with height adjustable suspension.

EA81S came with larger headers.

All MY series come with electric fuel pump and not sure why it had a surge pot?

Something must have been really bad with the timing/tune on this if it didn't have enough power.. that combination should have made this run like a scalded cat.

Yeah the quoted text doesn't count as characters in the post, hence you have to add at least one of your own.
