Wrecking 2000 Forester GT -Anyone want to go halves buying?

Post by taza » Wed Mar 16, 2011 12:55 pm

There is a 2000 MY00 Forester GT Manual for sale in Jandakot, Perth W.A.
The passengers side has been T-Boned in a accident but other than that there is much salvageable. The engine is in 100% working order and only has 124,000km on it (EJ20T). I want to buy it but cant afford to, I cant get it back to Geraldton and im not experienced enough for an engine transplant.

I really only want the rear diff, rear bumper, alloy rims, seats and a few other small bits and pieces.

I have talked to the guy who has it and he wants $1700 for it.

Is anyone willing to go halves or something like similar. There is much salvageable. He could probably come down to $1500

I wouldn't waste my money, it's been sitting for what looks like years, it's been exposed to the weather & I'd say the passenger seat is well bent and at most looks like you'll get 3 mags out of it.

fair enough. I might just ask the guy if I can get the rear diff for 200bucks. A viscous LSD has to be slightly better then my open diff, in sand and on gravel anyway.

I have a rear bumper here if you are interested.
I saw that ad that you linked to about a month ago. Had a quick thought of doing a conversion on my foz but the moment passed quickly.

What colour is the rear bumper? Also what kind of conditon is it in?9also long its its not broken I dont care) Will it fit my 01 Forester? I have kind of passed on the idea of a turbo engine anyway. Im happy with my little forry.
I broke/ cracked mine yesterday as it got caught of a sand dune when I was going up and had about 40km/hr of momentum. Thank god for duck tape.

The bumper is unpainted. Came off a 99 N/A that I wrecked. I kept it as the bumper on mine was pushed in on the corner but I got out the heat gun and popped mine out. Pretty sure that the bumper will be the same as yours. PM me a pic if you like and I will compare them.

Heres a pic from before I took it from the car.

The bumper wont fit. Mines fixable, it would of just been nice to have a spare.

Mines abit different and has rear fog light spots.

Not too many automatics have a hydralic slave cylinder next to the brake booster :p

lol oh yeh didn't spot that! :P

This seems like a pretty good deal for someone wishing to upgrade their n/a forester to GT spec (mate of mine is nearly finished doing his and apparently it was really easy). But yeh looking at those pics you'd want to see it running first, certainly a bit crusty looking!

*edit - actually, stuff-it, I'll put my hand up to go halves in it (at sell price of 1500) if I get all the driveline and wiring. I just don't have anywhere to strip it at the moment so I'd only be in if I can just rip all that out and take it with me leaving the rest behind.

Im chasing the rear diff, heaps of interior bits and rear bumper.

A few of us could pitch in and buy it, get the parts we want.

You seen the size & felt the weight of a Foz tow bar, those things are huge compared to anything you'll find on a Lib or Impreza & more than a L Series would ever need.

It was standard in the forester GT to have a rear vlsd. Where as I have a 2001 Forester limited with open diffs allround. I just want some improvement. Disconnecting the swaybars helps :D
