Bugger!
You know when you have one of those moments where you think you are being clever but it ends up blowing up in your face? My 99GT needs a new knock sensor and mr subaru wanted about $200 for a new one, thought 'bugger that' and went and got one off ebay for half the price, and yes the ad said it would fit my model. Oh and guess what, not even close! wonderful just freakin wonderful:mad:. Think its for a forester younger than mine but got no idea what year.
But anyway, long story short I dont suppose anyone has got a knock sensor that would be suitable for my 99GT? Would be the same as the N/A model forester? Probably not but you never know until you ask:) Probably should have put this in the wanted to buy section but wouldn't be able to have a vent then:)
Cheers,
Corax.

Hey Paul,
Would like to but there are a few problems...
1. Don't have a camera. Did until the ex broke hers so I let her borrow mine and havent seen it since. Oh well.
2. Wouldn't do me much good if I did. Tried to post a few pictures before when I had a camera and gave up in frustration.
3. The sensor is buried under the intercooler so just about impossible to get a decent shot of it.
Apart from that, to easy!:)

Didn't think this through at all did I? Not much good if you guys can't see the type of sensor I need. My code is made of fail!

Have fun replacing it, first time it's a pig but you'll get it down to a fine art if you do it 4 or 5 times in a row like I did, if you have no luck with Paul give seagull a try.

I have found with EA82 mpfi turbo knock sensor is that there is at least two types, which is understandable they have two different ECU's. The EA82 uses a 13/16" deep socket and there is a tightening torque of 17 - 20 ft lbs. Looks like the 3 plug ECU uses a white plastic bodied one with two pins inside for connection. Another is a green plastic body with just one pn for connection. The body may be colour code but the body of the pastic is also different size like 12mm and 18mm so intechangeability is not easily mistaken.
Maybe the EJ stuff is all the same? Or different to suit models NA turbo etc and is identified in same way as EA stuff. And Mr Fuji also wants about $200 for an EA82 sensor!

Oh.. ok Dave.. can you tell me if the unit has a bosch (like pic below) plug right in the unit itself or just a wire coming off to a white plug.. and if so does the white plug look like a single pin plug or a double pin plug with just one wire in it?

Yeah it has a bosch (red) plug going into the unit itself with a single wire running to a white plug. I think the white plug is a 2 pin given the size of it but as I said before it is not possible to easily get to it.
Went to subaru today and gave them the part number on the sensor i bought and turns out its for a 97 Liberty. Am going to try and get my money back from the guy as his ebay site clearly states that its compatible with a 99GT. Probably wont work but I will give it a go.
Gotta admit as well am thinking of taking it to subaru to have it done. Total cop out I know but getting to the stage where I just want it fixed.
Cheers for your help guys.

Yeah Paul thats the one. Did get in contact with the guy I bought it off today and he actually replied back in under 2 minutes stating that he must have posted the wrong one and that if I would give him my engine number and post the original back that he would send the correct one out. Just about fell out of my chair! Will have to see how it goes.
In regards to fishing spots my all time fav would have to be the warren river mouth. Not just because of the fishing but a few years ago the perth 'jeep 4wd club' was down there when I was fishing trying to get up the hill and failing. To the extent that we gave up fishing to watch the entertainment on the hill. They tried for about 3 hours to get out and they ended up leaving some of their members on the beach who got to see a beaten up old red brumby with 5 blokes in it packed to the hilt with eskies, salmon and beer make it up the hill first go. $50000 vs $2500 and the $2500 won. That was a good day:D:D:D:D
