Found this at the local shopping centre near my workshop... spoke to the owner and he's loving it.

Yeah he bought it off Vidler. Had to replace the whole engine not long afterwards I think.
Oh my god it looks rediculous without the 29" tyres! I hope he plans to put them back on, it's abit cop-bait like that.

And why did he have to change the engine? Has he still got the old one? Most likely doesn't realise how much that block and pistons cost.

The new owner needs to come on and share his plans for it, haha. He might be a little confused..

From memory the motor was using lots of oil and water, and someone told me it had the piston-slapping death rattle when they saw it at a workshop.
Glad to hear the current owner is enjoying it, I hope those wheels/tyres are just tempory and he actually takes it offroad! :)
Dam I wish I had a roofrack like that.

Yeah.. I know it's history.. I was just having a laugh with Jay :) and I too think that he should change the wheels but I think he has them on for street use only.

Ok Brett, I gave him one of my business cards, so if he calls I'll let him know you're interested in the old engine. My guess is that it's at Japanese Wholesales, where he got the engine changed over with a L/Km Jap engine out of a late model forester.

Cant see the pic at work, will have to look when i get back to perth. I saw it at Jap Wholesale getting new bottom end fitted, not sure exact reasons why but old one shat itself, thats going back a few months so i doubt they've still got it. They werent impressed with the wiring mess in that car, and that was after a clean up. I was quick to point out it wasnt me.

I'll email you the pic Jay, so you can remember old times... When I saw it in the carpark, I had flooding memories of it on my hoist with 1 bent LHF strut. That vid that Suba did must still be around somewhere?

I was talking to Jap Wholesale on some other things today and asked them about the orange monster's old motor. They remembered the car very well (of course) but confirmed that the old motor "went straight into the bin". Apparently it was severely munted but I couldn't get any further details than that.

What a shame. The forged pistons alone in it were $900 my price. The block had diesel liners and was closed deck which cost $2000. STi heads and cams and it soon adds up in parts that would have been useable no matter how bad the bottom end was.
