I suggest you to look for Gen 1 or 2 Liberty wagon 1989-1994/1994-1998. You can find 1995 model for 5k. Gen 2 Liberty would be a better car to suit you, most of them are AWD (there is also FWD models out there) there has been a couple going on ebay. Where are you located?
Cheers

thats 'shark's car from these forums.
May i say, its got a brand new paint job and is a very very nice looking car. Marc has also just recently spent a fair bit on it getting it up to scratch, so its definately worth a look.

Hi guys,
After a week I found 3 good looking cars. Haven't had a chance to test drive them (vac work started and has kept me very busy) but hopefully on the weekend I'll be able to drive one.
There was a good one in the quokka for 3.5k which had all the ads I was looking for (bbar, rracks, spot light, good sound system) so the chap had done some work on it.
There are lots around though!

Parents just told me one condition.. it has to have at least ONE airbag.... does that rule out all L series? Are there any late model with airbags? Cheers guys

as far as I'm aware that rules out all L series. But I've been wrong in the past

yeah you are gonna have to look at libs now, I don't think any L series had airbags. Maybe some obscure japanese model might but I've never heard of one.

Gen 1 did have airbags but not all of them normally wagons had them.
AirBags arent worth having and a lot of people have upgraded them to normal struts as airbags gets cracks in them and gets flat all the time and becomes pricey to fix.

Surely he is talking about airbags as in the safety feature found on steering wheels. I doubt his parents would take issue as to what type of struts he has, let alone specify "at least ONE" of a particular type!
note - for interest's sake I'm pretty sure there was a Japanese released version of L series with air suspension.

I'd suggest buying something older than a Gen2 lib for your first car. Not to imply that you can't drive or anything, but your first car is where you make all your mistakes. My first was an 84 Touring Wagon that was about a month younger than me! That thing had more than it's fair share of bumps and scrapes and mistreatment. Ended up trading it in with the guy I bought my Outback from and he turned it into a hunting/paddock basher car.
