Forester Nudge Bar

Post by Corax » Mon Sep 27, 2010 3:17 am

Hey Suba-Dudes,

Dont suppose anyone knows where I could find a nudge bar for my forester? Its a 99 GT. I want to mount a couple of large spotties to make the night runs to/from Perth a bit easier. Had a look at those number plate brackets and the way I would have to mount it on the car would be through the plastic bumper and I doubt the bumper could take the weight. Was wondering if there are any options as well as the standard nudge bar that you see on all the forrie's?

Cheers,
Corax.

Hey Dave.. I just remembered I had one made up for a Tarago we owned a while ago and my friend who owns a car yard put me onto them..

It was awesome and it wasn't too badly priced either

Cheers for the ideas guys, love the look of the subaextreme nudge bar but at $645 its a bit steep for me! Thinking it might be easier to buy some lightforce 170's(that only weigh about half a kilo each)and mount them on a number plate bar. Saw a pair on special the other day for $290 which might be a cheaper option that the nudge bar?

yeah, the number plate mounted "uni bar"
as they are called is the easiest way to go,
they are around 50-90 bux
and can mount most spotties on them easily,
just gotta pop out your front grill to cable tie the wires neatly

nah not my original idea at all
I had a unibar before (see my ozfoz sig) and it wobbled heaps. Having 3 Narvas on there didn't help though :D
The member pmh on ozfoz who has a unibar had one of his licence plate bolts shear off and now he can't get it out. His licence plate is held on by 1 bolt and he now can't use the unibar anyway.

Yeah, I wanted to mount 2 old cibie spotties that I have but they weigh heaps. No way the number plate bolts would take the weight and I think unless you mounted the uni-bar through 4 points the vibration would be to much. Just my opinion. Thats why I thought the lightforce 170's might be an option because they are so light (no pun intended)

Bought a uni bar today and mounted it using only the 2 screws that hold the number plate in place. Havent mounted any spotties on it yet but it seems to move around a fair bit due to the fact there is nothing securing it at the bottom. Was wondering if its possible to get behind the bumper so I could drill through it in a couple of places and secure the bottom of the section thats behind the numberplate with a couple of nut/bolt/washer combo's? This should stop a lot of vibration, plus stop someone from nicking the spotties by removing the uni bar. Is there an easy way to do this? Or would I have to remove the whole front bumper (not fun!).

Dunno about Foresters, but on most cars you'd have to remove the bumper. I had a Unibar on my previous Falcon attached with about six tek screws. Worked well, even with Oscar-sized lights on it.

:o I'm not sure about Dave but I'm thinking I'd never use them on my new car :???: I'd make a stiffening/securing plate behind the plastic bumper to spread/share the load and this should reduce the flex :)

Ok went to good old bunnings and bought a 10 pack of 6x30 hex nut + bolts. Plan to put a strip/plate of something inside the bumper (if it will fit) then drill through the bumper and plate and tie the uni bar to the bumper using the bolts. I think 3 along the bottom plus the 2 number plate bolts will do the trick. Thanks for all the advice.
