Wreckers - what's there...

Post by El_Freddo » Fri Feb 01, 2008 11:42 am

Hey all,

Just stopped off at the campbellfield pick a part to scout for parts - hope to be doing the rounds of the wreckers on sunday.

Thought i'd drop a line to say that the campbellfield pick a part only has one subi for parts - an 84-87 red leone 2wd. There is also an 87 (can't remember correctly) XT 2wd vortex in the whole car sale section - $1100. Has some rust, brown interior and some bubbly rust visable under the rear right hand window. This is by no means a full inspection, i just went for a sticky-beak look, you don't see to many of these around these days...

Cheers

Bennie

PS: feel free to post what you've seen at you're latests wreckers visit...

Last time I went to Kilsyth PAP they had a MY wagon, an L wagon w/MPFI but I don't recall interior details, and an early Liberty wagon.

Ringwood PP&Go still had the yellow MY wagon (early 82 model) and not much else that springs out.

Anybody else been into the Dandenong wreckers down near the drive-in ? They had at least 1/2 a dozen MYs in rough shape, including 1 Brumby (missing tailgate) and 2-3 pre-MYs including a gen 1 Brumby which is probably the only gen 1 Brumby I know of in Victoria...

Dean.
1989 Brumby - Shiny new red paint, stroked EJ20 phase 2 SOHC with Darton sleeves bored to EJ22, Wiseco high-compression pistons, Delta 2000 grind cams , EJ/XT6 5 stud with WRX 4/2 pots, 5-speed, 86 GTS seats and so much more.
Contact me for reproduction XT6 hubs...and EA82 rear discs.

Sunday 3rd JAN 08

Centre Rd wreckers: as AP posted above with another L wagon in the roadway waiting to be shoved in with the others...

Pick a part Kilsyth: 1 GLF-5 (2wd 5spd EA81 coupe - minus doors now) quite rusty in the body. All rear glass still there and a good bonnet.
MY touring wagon - the most rusted rube i've ever seen
Blue MY wagon
L leone 2wd
L touring wagon (possibly another DL but not sure on that sorry)
1 Libery sedan 2wd - not sure what gen

Got most of the bits i needed for the brumby so was pretty happy. Got a set of COMPLETE doors for $52 each - that price is for how they come off the car, not just the physical door (bargain, i was quoted $500 for a set of complete brumby doors from a local wreckers). We got 5 centre caps, gearbox mounts, wiper switch, various bolts from parts we took all for the price of the doors - a good day out a kilsyth ;)

Deer Park Motor wreckers - 1x L series
~3x Libs
2x Forester
Aladians - 2x L series
heaps of MYs

No one else around here has anything I am getting desperate for this wheel really need on before 24th and don't want to pay $120 for a brand new one just to decorate my roof with eg spare.

Sorry mate, I've only seen the now very common 13 inch sunnies... I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Good luck!

Maybe we should put the addresses of all the wreckers we know of that have good subi pickings - I couldn't find the one on greens rd cos i didn't know what suburb it was in, didn't need it in the end but it would be good to visit some other joints every now and then...

Yeah worth the drive eh - I've always liked to spend the 'day' to myself hunting on parts and look at the cars etc..

Righto - I'll check him out - only 1 minute from here. (the thing is i dont really check out "small" wreckers because they're normally counter types and he looked like he was and looked expensive type of ppl.)

As its - 5/2/08
Just visited Deer Park wreckers - very unusual to have Foresters there!
3 Foresters (all EJ20 with Dual range) ,
1 Impreza (was automatic - no engine & gearbox),
2 Liberty (FWD & 4WD) and
1 L Series (4WD)

Prices - I think its expensive? (depends what you're looking for)... quoted $400 for gearbox if I remove it myself (as I know I can get one for $120) , front Bumper for Commodore $140 (where I can get for $68)
Cheers

Hmmm... might have to rob a bank... Me thinks one of these drivetrains in the L would be super 8)

Lets not forget the EJ now too... would be easier for me as i don't know how to make an adaptor plate and would lack the confidence to do it :(

Damn, I'm starting uni next week and it would be great to drop one of these in the L for the start of the year.

I've been wondering if the MPFI computer and wiring would beable to service the EJ18 or EJ20 without any dramas. I'm thinking the sensors would need to be swapped to the MPFI wiring type... Just thoughts atm...
