Info on tracks

Post by yarney » Tue Jan 24, 2012 9:35 pm

Hi guys we are coming down your way in May and just want some thoughts on some tracks in the High Country.
Can you let me know if you have driven on them in a Subaru and will a Subaru with all the Mods get through.

Fist off around Mt Hotham area
South Basalt Knob Track i have seen on some videos it is very seep we will be going down it or Ritchie Track this one looks good too but not as steep by the looks. Then Butcher Country Track and or Caledonia Track.
In the Walhalla area Deep Creek 5 and Deep Creek 2

We will be in that area around 16th-20th May if you want to meet up your welcome
Any hints on what to expect will be taken on board.

Thanks Jan

El Freddo is the guy to ask for around Hotham.

Walhalla is fun...I may be keen to head back, esp as I'll have my lift & "real" bash plate done by then ;)

I have a feeling Venom may be keen to seek revenge on the track there that beat his single range H6

Some exc river crossings (Thompson R. et al).

i do alot of four wheel driving and motorbike riding in the high country mainly around the licola and dargo areas. i would steer clear of the more hardcore tracks as there is no way i would do it in s subie. i have done them on bikes and struggled, done them in modified landcruisers and was getting to there limits. in saying that these are the more hardcore tracks, but there are many more fun tracks that go to the huts etc that will still challanging and alot of fun.
dont want to sound like i dont have faith in subarus to do these tracks, but you have to remember victoria has the highest and steepest tracks in the country. thanks
