Cobaw - AWD Big Day Out 9-8-08

Post by Suberman » Sat Aug 09, 2008 9:59 pm

Here's a few taster pics of a great day of challenging conditions. El Freddo and Alpine Raven have the action shots and vids to come.

We met at the BP station Carlsruhe. The fog hadn't lifted. El Freddo, Mick (Heath's Toyota 4wd mate) and Alpine Raven stretch their legs before we go.
Image

This maybe a Subaru forum, but chops where they're due.
Mick bought along his cruiser which had a 700 hp, 350 Chevrolet V8 whacked in out of a drag racer which did the 1/4 mile in 13secs with this donk in it.
Image

Mick's monster has a wonky fender.
Image

Heath's jumpy lil Leone does a running repair on the Toyota fender. El Freddo gives it a kick for good measure.
Image

A bit of milling around after arriving at the tourist track maps, the names and locations we left up to El Freddo. Alpine Raven is smiling but was really champing at the bit to get into some mud.
Image

The convoy arrives at the top of the first track, a few deep breaths, a check of the track etc.
Image

About 1:30 we head off to El Freddo's place for barby lunch.
Mick's monster was cooling down.

Image

Heath and El Freddo look at an empty table where soon the snags and Australia shaped mince burgers will appear.

Nice pics and quick write up dave! I chucked up some teaser pics on the end of the organisational thread - i'll stick a write up in here tomorrow with any luck. Video will have to wait a little while maybe. Did you have any footage, I wasn't sure if you had still image or video... Glad you got some pics of your lib in the bush - with 2 cameras I still missed it!!!

Cheers

Good pics. Nice looking countryside too.

BTW, who ever told you that the chev has 700hp had their hand on it. 700hp in a drag car that only does 13's? Something wrong there.

Nice shots there Alpine Raven. Even a couple of my old girl before she cracked a hissy fit and went to pasture at El Freddo's farm ;)

Here's a few vids of two of the tracks and happenings -

This first one was a big water hole

Matt, I haven't even started yet!!! I'm STILL uploading images, one by one. Currrently "reviewing" the video footage but probabily won't have any up for a while :(

OB - that's what we were told. It's cam profile put the power in the the 4000 to 8000 rev range. I guess the 5 to 1 low range would have helped out with that ;)

I'll tell you what - having multiple cameras is making it complicated while uploading images in order...

Overall a great day - I've got some tracks I want to give a go real soon before the weather starts to dry things out... Plenty of stuff to keep us entertained for a while yet - then there's the wombat forest (its about 4 times larger than the cobaw forest)

My take on the day will be posted soon.

Cheers

most important question, when's the next trip?

I'm planning one in the same area for the middle weekend of the school holidays - 27-28 September 2008. Idea would be to camp on back hill overnight for easy access to the forest...

I'll start another post about it when I remember...

I've got the use of a mac laptop for the weekend (I'm in love with it!) - I've started the video on this already. I may not beable to include other footage as it won't get here on time. I will "archive" that footage for a later "hot shots" video.

Thanks for the offer AP - I've got our 500 gig unit connected to the laptop uploading to the net... its been about 4 hours and 45 million bites SENT! That's the most i've ever seen our modem send in one hit...

I hope its not going to be much longer, I was planning on an early night - its 2:30am now...

I'll probabily post it in the other thread that I started.
