Next thing to work out is: To go locked rear or not. Both have advantages:
Unlocked:
- 4wd on the fly (no need to shove the driveshaft in to lock the rear)
- no handling issues on hard surfaces while turning at intersections
Locked:
- Awesome traction
-
I'm currently leaning to keeping the open diff for simplicity of operation, but still have the "after taste" of the welded... but I also don't want to be looking for tracks that I'd be the only one to make it up without damaging my subi.
Thoughts?
I'm looking forward to it.
Rhys, let me know, I should be free on the monday of the long weekend
Cheers

Just an update, I should be joining for the Sunday only. Still gotta check when and where is the meeting point for that day...

Hey Venom, can you just confirm where's the meeting point on Sunday? Couldn't find it in your previous posts...
I'm ok to come to the camp site early on Sunday morning if that's the best option.
Cheers,
Pedro.

Should be good. Details will flow from therepezimm wrote:Hey Venom, can you just confirm where's the meeting point on Sunday? Couldn't find it in your previous posts...

I'll see what I can dig up in terms of gear. I know I've got a tent somewhere, but as for a sleeping bag thats in good condition... No need for beers - I drink rum for starters, and I'm still on an "extended" feb fast.
Cheers
Bennie

Friday night and Saturday morning meeting point will be the Greendale Pub. The address of the Greendale Pub is 1 Greendale-Myrniong Road (the C318 ), Greendale. Basically take the Greendale exit off the Western Fwy and follow that road untill you reach the pub. We will be camping at O'Briens Crossing Friday night.
I have no idea what time everyone can get out there on Fri night so I'm thinking 6.30pm as a prelimenary time, and if people arrived after 7pm you can find your own way to O'Briens Crossing (not hard). Just turn right at the pub onto the Trentham-Greendale Road and follow it untill you hit O'Briens Road. Turn right onto O'Briens road and follow it untill you hit the campsite at the bridge. I will be there early on Friday. If anyone wants to catch up for a friday arvo session let me know.
Saturday morning I want to depart for 4WDing at 8:30am from the Greendale Pub. Location as described above.
Saturday night We will be camping at either Ditchfields or Richards campsite in the Mt Cole National Park. There are other sites as well if they are full.
Sunday morning Meeting place will be the intersection of Raglan - Mt Cole Road and Beaufort - Elmhurst Road at 9am. To get there drive into Beaufort and then turn right onto Beaufort Amphitheatre Road (The very last turn before the BP service station). Once over the train tracks you basically follow that road all the way to the Mt Cole road intersection, going through Raglan. Beaufort Amphitheatre Road becomes Beaufort Elmhurst Road. It will take approximately 20mins to get there from Beaufort so please time your trip accordingly.
Here is a Google Map link with directions for the simplest route to the Sunday morning meeting point from Beaufort as described above http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&sour ... 81789&z=13
