Possibly coming over to Canberra - meet and greet anyone?

Post by tim_81coupe » Fri Apr 21, 2006 8:10 pm

Hi guys,
I'm possibly flying over to Canberra on Saturday the 3rd of June, departing on Monday the 5th. This is a long weekend in WA, but not in the ACT. Wouldn't mind meeting a few board members from those parts, unfortunately I can't bring the coupe, apparently it's a little too heavy for carry on luggage :D

The visit is primarily to see my mother who's working over there at the moment. I should be free to meet people on Saturday night or Sunday, who knows if I score a midnight horror I might be free Saturday!

Anyway, keen to meet any familiar board identities, and put faces to names. :D

Sounds like a plan, if I'm not working I'll be there.

Awesome guys, just awesome. Looks like that 'maybe' is going to have to turn into a 'definitely' :D

I'll have to get the nitty gritty of my flight details worked out and then I'll book it. Just been told that fuel costs are going to cause flight costs to increase, bugger.

So yeah, is any time better than another? Saturday night or Sunday daytime? I really can't commit to Saturday daytime as I'll either just be arriving or I'll be recovering from a night flight (can't sleep on planes!). Or even Monday perhaps? My mum doesn't actually know I'm coming over yet, I'll be telling her in the next week or so, so at the moment I'm free for any of those times...

Can't wait to meet some of the ACT & NSW crew!

Guys there's been a slight hiccup in my plans. My mother has decided to come back to WA this Friday, she was the victim of an attempted mugging last week and no longer feels safe where she is.

However, I've begun saving for my trip over, and after much deliberation I have decided to try and press on, difference is now booking accomodation for those few days but I should manage. The furthest east I've ever been is Esperance and it has been my intention to get over there somewhere for a while.

It should all hopefully come to fruition, it will be great to meet you guys and it will be a bit of an adventure for me too.

must have been in Queenbyan :!:

But seriously there are a few dodgy places in Canberra but usually not around residential areas (and usually few and far between), do you know where she was staying Tim?

Hi guys,

My mum is back in WA at the moment, but it looks like she's definitely going back. She's had work-provided counseling and feels better about it all. No idea which suburb it was in, all I know is it was near a gym somewhere.

So its full steam ahead. I've had a couple of developments, going to ask my boss if I can get a couple of days off so I can come over earlier. Not sure what he'll say, a certain hire car company over here has just signed off on the purchase of 300 or so Corolla's, all of which need air con fitted (by myself and my colleagues).
My housemate might be coming over too depending on whether its for 5 days or for 3. He's never been out of WA before, so if he comes I might have to go check out Sydney too.

Anyway, apart from that all I can say is the saving has begun. I have enough noodles to feed all the people in China for a week and the lunch bar around the corner from my work might go out of business on account of me.

Oh - and the WA crew secrets... well I can't say all of them online but I believe the Hatch actually runs an EA63 (with an EJ22 engine cover, no less) and Jaffa's wagon is actually a Nissan Pintara with RX seats. There's plenty more too :D  :P

Guys at this stage it still looks like I'm coming. Not sure about my housemate, but hey, if I get 5 days I'll prolly come see Sydney too.

Any suggestions about a meet-up place? I'm keen for any setting, be it a meet & cruise or just a night at the pub. Since I don't know Canberra too well I'll have to ask you guys for a venue, open to just about anywhere.

I *might* have a hire-car too.

5days around canberra - you do really need a car, the road system is the best, tho i'm told the busses are good too.
can recommend war memorial, national gallery and old parliament house as must see.

I'll be in canberra this wkend, will revisit som of these on monday, then see where i can get up to in the brindabelas tues+
