Make the tourists work for their holiday (dailup warning)

Post by BaronVonChickenPants » Sat Jul 19, 2008 10:17 pm

With Bill (chubby37) and Carlos (chubby13) down in Coff's for the weekend we decided a beach outing would be fun, so we headed out at about 1ish, just before low tide.

Tide wasn't quite as low as expected so after driving along for a little while I decided I should turn around before we got into trouble........

And this happened:

These pictures are after a final unsuccessful attempt to dig it out, rocking didn't help either, it was completely bottomed out on the belly with very little weight on two diagonally opposite wheels, and to top it off, the diff was stopping us going backwards and the engine cross member stopping us going forwards, eventually gave in and flagged down a passing cruiser and were towed out.

The aftermath:

Left quite a significant quantity of sand in the wash bay afterwards but no damage was done and everyone had an adventure, besides Carlos wanted to see the beach anyway ;)

forgot to air-down the tires? if you done that, bet it wouldn't have happened
in the first place.

I would have let the tide have my car before I would let a cruiser tow it out. :D Gonna let some air out of your tyres next time?

It's actually a fairly sedate beach, been there a few times with no issues, it's not uncommon to see falcadores traversing the beach, just didn't slow down enough to make the turn and came out to wide.

No big deal, was a bit of fun and adventure for the day with no damage done.

Edit: Just noticed my newly changed sig is strangely appropriate

The beach is fairly busy but just to be safe next time we're bringing Bill's liberty along to get stuck too.

Good on you for getting out and about in the Outback. Packing a $10 long-handled shovel would have come in handy. Bottle jack, base plate, pack under the lifted wheels, hey presto.
'91 Sportswagon - 3" lifted, 14" speedys, 27" Nankangs + lots of small details improved. Wouldn't mind some extra grunt from an EJ.
