G'day,
Just out of curiosity - how many millilitres should I be loosing oils over 5000 kms or something, how do you know if its good or not etc...

Since my liberty is now at 273,000kms i just did oil change on my Liberty after 5000kms, I think I lost approx 300-400mls of Oil for last 5000kms (even with leaky distributor cover on drivers side) Is that Normal to loose that much of oil??
Cheers

all engines will use oil. but how much they use will obviously depend on both the age and condition of motor. also how its driven plays its part.

i wuld say at 273,000 that its gonna have increased blowby for sure.

a thicker oil will reduce it, but may not be the best thign for the rest of the motor.

i wuldnt really worry unless its dropping off the dipstick before u get to the next oilchange.

Mine drops off the end of the dipstick if I don't top it up. I lose around 1.5L / 10,000km sometimes more, sometimes a lot less. Many seeps, not really leaks so to speak. Then again I find it hard to get a good idea of the oil level in mine, you can't really trust it unless the oil is cold and car is level. I think Magnatec tends to not drain back into sump real quick.

306000km on engine, driven in a variety of conditions :)

Just check it regularly and top up as required. I've let it run down to 3L before and the oil light doesn't come on, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is happy either.
