A bit more grunt for my forester

Recently bought an 04 Forester X. I love the car but wouldn't mind a bit more power. Are there any things I can do to make it go a bit better that won't cost the earth?
You could probably open up the exhaust a bit, but on such a modern car, i doubt you would gain much, likewise goes for the intake.
There are ECU chips out there, but the gains are minimal and the chips are expensive.
I thought the 2.5 in the forester was pretty grunty
