waic?

Hi guys,
have just fit a waic to my brumby(EJ20t). Was just wondering if you can use coolant in the waic radiator. Or are you better of using distilled water

Yeah, as far as I know everyone just runs normal coolant in them. Same as in the motor.

Studies show straight water is the best conductor for heat transfer but as you know it's not good for Alloy. IMO I have found the Tectaloy 60 (only in the waic) in road cars to be the best, we have try many brands and types in the workshop. As for the engine, I would not use anything but Genuine Subaru Coolant, I have seen inside engines that have done over 200,000kms and using only Subaru Coolant and the engine parts i.e. water pump, thermostat housing, etc... Looking like new. I think it is definitely worth it... when you work out the change over costs.

Use coolant in the waic.
hate to disagree, but I'll never use any Tectalloy again. corrosion chewed the guts out of my last suby engine (and it never had any other coolant in it) and most of my previous cars never looked pretty either in hind sight.
I've been advised by the Suby guru's over here to use genuine Suby or Castrol coolant/anti corrosive (in the little can...) I'm sure there are plenty of others.

Had a top mount on it before, I think the waic is better. But I hadn't driven it for about 6 months so its hard to tell. Fun to have it back on the road though. Thanks for the advice!

I use the Tectaloy stuff in my WAIC and havent had an issue with it.

Thanks Matt but I think you may have missed what I was saying ( or I may not have worded it right
) I was trying to say that I wouldn't use Cheap Shit like Tectaloy in my engine either but because the WAIC is it own system then it doesn't get the same electrolysis problems that an engine gets... and that way you don't need such a high glycol concentrate. I have a Subaru RS Turbo since 1989 (Imported Jap model) and have had no corrosion in the WAIC system. But these are just my opitions and you should follow your own mind and experiances.

Im using a cheapish coolant, but its premixed, which i think is the biggest factor in corrosion protection.
In coolant you mix yourself, if you use tap water, depending on where you live, it can contain all sorts of minerals/chemicals which lead to corrosion

yeah, your right. Thought I might have come across a bit O.T.T.
I have just gone dirty on Tectalloy. I have had several people advise against using it with Subys. I don't know how the alloy that subaru use in their blocks compare with others, I was just shocked at what I'd seen in mine.
the waic is a different kettle.....
for a positive input:
use a decent coolant.
use demineralised water in "post mix" concentrate
enjoy the 'cooler, I do.
