Thanking my lucky stars!!!
Ever had one of those days where things could have ended up a whole lot worse?
On the daily drive to work this morning, i took a corner, that is on a slight down-hill that curves gently to the right, at the same speed i normally do, about 80-90km/h.
Little did i know, that the local 'band aid brigade' (road maintenance) had been patching potholes the day before. They had left excess blue metal gravel on the surface of the road.
Anyway, i came to this bend, hit the gravel and felt the weight shift,.. i lifted my foot of the accel pedal gently and hoped it would just follow through,.... NOPE!!!
Rear of the car was starting to catch up with the front. I gently turned left to try to regain control, NOPE!!! Rear of car was now in-front of me!!!!!
With no options left, i braked and slid off the edge of the road (still travelling sideways mind you) and came to a rest just before the bottom of a gully facing in the opposite direction to which i was originally travelling.
Luckily there were no obstacles in my path so my suby was unharmed.
I regained myself, put her in 4wd and slowly drove out of the muddy paddock and then after stopping to inspect for damage, headed for work.
Lesson to be learnt,..
Road conditions vary from day to day, ive done that bend at more than 100km/h before.
I was just lucky there wasnt a car/truck coming in the other direction as things could have turned out a lot worse.

I was actually thinking about that after it happened, i'd love to have a go of a skidpan to see what works and what doesnt.Cam wrote:in fwd, give it a little gas if the back steps out, pulls it back in...
Apparently they only had signs on the afternoon while they were working, there were none there thismorning, even though there is still loose gravel (kinda like crusha dust) on the road.

Reminds when I had a little revvy, torquey mazda 1300 2door wagon with a 1400 in it, fats and would slide neatly in the wet - point and shoot , terrifcally balanced. Road resealing using fine crushed stones and the excess was not swept away for weeks. I got real good at taking this right angled left hander on the edge of town ( so no pedestrians and clear view) , whole car sliding out and the back follow the front - then one day I went too fast, too tight and I just spun right around 180 and stalled it , all in my side of the road, giving oncoming traffic something to liven up their day
