Its my understanding the 1800 1987 model was 4wd button only for auto, ie no dual range.

Is this correct?

If so is it unworthy as compared to the manual in terms off beach 4wding?

Yes no dual range, for just beach driving the auto isnt bad but they do take a fair bit of power away from the engine.
