Removing rear wheel bearings L series
Removing rear wheel bearings L series
Went 4WDing on Stockton dunes, had a great weekend and then driving home had a collapsed rear wheel bearing. What a bugger to try and fix, managed to get a new wheel bearing, but could not remove that inner threaded ring with the 4 notches on it. I guess that there is a custom tool, but anyway had to cold chisel the ring out, the whole axle/bearing carrier/ trailing arm needs replacing, anyone got a spare they are willing to sell?

I dont know how you attempted the fix but if you undo the hub nut first the inside nut usually spins out easily. That said i used to go to a place at the back of Newcastle (Cardiff) that was into commodores and Subarus. it was on the main industrial road about half way down on the Left.

When i did mine, i used a punch to push out the tabs so that ring could spin

Don't worry, i've gotta work out how to get my rear right hub off before i can do this - it seems to have rusted onto the driveshaft spline... Fun fun...
I'm thinking of doing the same as you are - get a new trailing arm and replace the bearings in there then swap them over. I realise that your current trailing arm is stuff so not a slow process like mine.
Good luck with finding a new trailing arm and the bearing install...
Cheers
