Can anyone recomend a freight company to ship an engine from Sydney?
I found a motor i want in Syd, bloke says he'll deliver it to a depo.
On that thought, is it worth a sticky of recomended carriers?
Ta guys,

i ship stuff often but not old engines. i would think it needs to be packed so it is clean and has no oil in it. TNT should do it for you and they have good rates.

Saw this on another auto board awhile back, I haven't used them but good feedback:
>> recent purchased a wheel and tyre from Melbourne. The terms were I had to organise a courier to pick it up from the sellers house, and have it transported to me in Port Macquarie NSW, which is over 1,200 km.
I had a look online and found these guys
http://www.smartsend.com.au
Would you believe they only charged me $36.16 to get a courier to drive through Melbourne, pick up a wheel and tyre, then have it transported 1,200km and have another courier deliver it to my door !!!
The best part was I didn't even need to speak to anyone. I just filled the forms in online, nominated a date and time to have it picked up, and paid via paypal.
I filled the form in on Thursday night, they picked it up the next day, and I got it Tuesday !.
The only catch is - your only supposed to use them if you are the sender - which I was not. It didn't matter though because when they email the Consignment note to me, I just emailed it to the seller, and he printed it out and gave it to the driver when they came and picked it up.

DONT use TNT, you will regret it.
Beechy Carriers amd TOLL are our biggest freight company for interstate.
Alot of our customers sems to use them. The next best option is to find a local freigt company, as if they are going that way they are usually empty on the way back and will give you a better rate. When I got a motor brought up from te ACT, I had to get all the liquid ( oil, and wter) drained before they would cart it any where.

Reason 1. I got a quote through them to send 50 kg, 2 boxes to sydney overnight. $1100. I got DNL to quote $115.
Reason 2. We sent a pallet, receiver to pay with the receivers Account number. We don't have an account with them, receiver got the shits, and said Sender to pay. We spent months fighing the $1500 bill.
I rest my case.

Dunno who it was through but I just got quoted $40 to deliver a gearbox from Melbourne to me. That's around 1072km by my reckoning.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, keep them coming as a reference.
Smartsend look good for all those little ebay weaknesses... but they don't do engines.
I'm suprised how few seem to be able to make arrangements on line?
No.

Not since i threw out all the EA81's
Got shipped oversea's thursday morn and just got back, so i missed the one i was looking at.
