Coupe build up - colour

Post by Outback bloke » Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:45 am

I am going to have to do two posts like this.

I have been planning the coupe build for a while now and haven't decided on any thing other than it is going to be a turbo/manual.

I am thinking about colour in this thread. Have a look at the poll and vote. If there is a different colour or combination you think would look good post it up.

I am over the wrx blue so that will not be happening and won't be considered.

You can pick a few options in this poll. So if you aren't sure on which one exactly put down two. Hopefully it will still work out.

You can see which one I am leaning towards.

Im assuming its a MY GLF5 type coupe.

It all depends on what your planning to do with it,..

Is it gonna be a stock looking sleeper, or decked out with flashy rims, spoilers ect?

+1 on Gannon's comments.

If you are going turbo/manual it's more performance than sports/luxury, so I would steer away from the red/white roof.

I think the two-tone finish looks good on the MY coupe's. Maybe red over dark red ?

Cobra stripes belong on a Cobra (or at least a Ford) imho...

I am tossing up if I do it stocko looking or a little rice. By rice I mean, paint, lowish, shiny rims (maybe 16's or 17's) and tint. That sort of thing. It won't have any bonnet scoop no matter what. Most likely a small front mount that can be hidden as much as possible.

It will have air, steer and electric windows. I won't be chasing big HP, just some thing that is respectfully quick. I have a late 8 bolt STi motor and a 4.111 turbo box that may go in it. If not that it will be the twin turbo front cut that is sitting in the garage.

I agree and I use the term loosely. That general idea though.

I voted for the white vinyl roof :P I think that would be uber-retro-cool

You will also need to get one of those chrome luggage racks that go on the boot too...

Burnt Torry orange would be a better choice with the vinyl though, not red

Yes that look exactly. Also need those metal louvres too. That sort of thing.

I did think about some 14" wheels and moonie hub caps at one stage.

Standard gold got my vote. It reckon they look good with superlites too. Its all the sameish vintage then.

In place of Cobra stripes how about side stripes a-la Charger White Knight special:

http://members.iinet.net.au/~ozcuda/WKS/

Sounds like you want the full retro late 70s look.

I don't see much value in going past 15" rims, you're not going to see much handling improvement from lower-profile tyres and it won't suit the look you appear to be aiming for. I've run 15" rims on my Brumby and it drives through corners like it's on rails...

I look at the coupe shape and think about older style rally cars - you know, the ones that have a purposeful squat and superlites.

I do like the idea of a white vinyl roof and chrome luggage rack, but I suspect that to keep white vinyl looking top notch you'd need to garage it.

Would you add a pin-stripe too?

18s and moon caps. But the moon is more a 60s thing. Heres a 70s colour for you Horizontal Purple, its basically silver with a purple tint in certain light. The 80s colours brought us the cheap crappy paint used in metallic os the decade where the clear lasted about 3 years before falling off.

I just found a picture of a gold coupe with the wheels I am now thinking about already on it.
