whatyareckon (opinion 2nd hand Forester $$$)

Watyareckon?

04 X Forester, silver, auto, very clean, 59K for $21K?

Normally would not look at car yards, but will not be able to sell the current vehicle ('98 SEAT Cordoba GLX been a good car - too small, not 4WD/AWD nor a Subaru)

thing that gets me - caryards red book my trade, but not the vehicle they are selling - comparing retail to wholesale?

Apples VS housebricks I reckon!

Shop around and see what is locally comparable. That price is ballpark for that model. Some yards whack it on a bit to negate the trade in, but some vehicles that are optioned will fetch more anyway. Try and negotiate at the end of the month, as they want their monthly quota and you have some bargaining advantage.

I was lucky with mine, the sales bloke was a good one, steered me to the better of the two he had at the same price, and he was right after seeing both in the flesh. He upped my trade in and I settled on their price. He then proceeded to throw in genuine mats and tray protector and got a set of roof bars at reduced price. This was a Subaru yard as it happens.
