Electric Impreza!

Post by Thalass » Thu Nov 08, 2007 1:18 pm

I found this while researching for my own conversion project. Unfortunately it's the only real Subaru conversion on the album website - there are a bunch of mini van things, but I don't think they count. :P

Here it is: http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/464

They keep their all wheel drive by having two rear diffs - one on the front, and two electric motors. I guess they'd have to have some kind of electronic diff, perhaps. Though without the driveshaft to twist up, perhaps it doesn't matter.

I hope to do something similar with a '94 Liberty sedan one day... I need a house and a garage first, though. And I need to get my Outback back on the road, too! :P

Actually this particular one is a home-conversion (or, rather, a racing team's conversion) of a 1995 Impreza. They claim to be able to keep up with the petrol cars they race against - not winning all the time, but not trailing the pack either.

I've not heard anything about an electric Subaru, though. Interesting.
