A little something from the Suby dealer

Here is what I picked up today from the Subaru Dealer today, got plenty of ricer bits, looks like it goes a million miles an hour standing still.....

Its pretty cool that the Subaru Dealer chucked this for my son with my deal.
My son got this display model that has lights up the headlights and neons underneath.

Most importantly...........I got a 2003 Forester X self shifter, 61K !!!!
I am so happy to be back in the fold, after being subyless for about 6 months. I dont get it until next week and I was too excited to remember to take any pics.

I have had a crazy thought since, I have got some 14" Series 1 Lib black steel rims and the 27" Nankangs in the shed........I gotta do this, not sure of guard clearance, will make good tyres for any sand work, probably sit out a bit, but rims are standard offset, may just work!

Hows this though, at this dealer they take off any accessories on the used cars, like the towbar, roof rack rails, headlight protectors, dash mats etc etc. They dont rate a non Subaru towbar and what type of towing its done, advised me off the Outback I saw as it done some touring with a caravan. But a genuine Subaru towbar and transmission cooler fitted is $800, go figure, I will be going elsewhere for this.
I was after roof rack cross bars, anyone know of any after market ones that may fit original rails?

Biggest problem you might find with the 14" wheels is whether they will clear the brake calipers. I think the standard wheels are 16", and the 14's might be too small to clear them.

Roof rack cross bars can be supplied by Rola - exactly the same as Subaru item. With my MY06 Forester, the cross bars are the type that sit above the rails, rather than the ones that fit between the rails at same height. When I got the Rola agent to come and fit the bars, I got him to make tham about 150mm longer (wider) than specifications, so as I can easily fit 3 mountain bikes up there (2 facing forward, 1 facing back) with the Rola bike attachments. (At a squeeze, I could fit 4!).

I also believe Rhino make bars to fit the genuine rails, however have never had experience with these.

Thanks Willie, Rhino thats the one I was thinking of, they to sit wider, I have seen them from a distance, but never up close. Will still look at Rola ones also, just need to carry my windsurfers, profile is flatter if 2x boards are side by side than on top of each other.

Might just try a bare rim anyway to find out if they do clear calipers then.

I'm almost certain that the Forester will have the 277mm brakes so 14s won't fit. Let us know how you go. The offset shouldn't be much of a problem. The standard Forester 15" rims are +48mm offset, 6" wide rims (the 16s are 6.5" +48mm offset). The Lib 14s are 5.5" and +55mm. Since the 16s for Foresters go fine on the Liberty then if it will fit on the brakes then there will be no offset issues.

Got me car yesterday

More than happy with the overall feel and attention to detail, got so many knick knack compartments it will keep my son amused for hours!
Compared to the past Subaru rides is actually stops and has enough go and a lot more civilised to drive, and for a base model it has full electrics, cruise etc - more than I expected. Havent got the wheels dirty yet or tried the other rims for size.

Hows this, I get an '07 Demo Forester from the dealer to drive around in for tomorrow, as they didnt do a service on mine before it went out the yard - pretty cool hey!

Yeah, a Lancelin trip is on the cards "as is" for now for a play in the dunes and tracks, and some windsurfing action. Might try the rims tomorrow for an experiment, but just looking at the calipers its unlikely the 14" rims will fit.
