Dunno if everyone knew about these Speedo Correctors except for me but it's a great idea and I know I'll be getting one when I get my bigger wheels.

It's a kit so the old soldering iron will have to come out but oh well i was getting a bit rusty. This one's also singing its' praises.

Yeah great kit for cars with an electronic speedo,

Mechanical Speedo?

The Speedo Corrector will work only on electronic speedos, that is, those that don’t have a mechanical rotating cable driving them. However, note that some mechanical speedos have an electronic output that sends speed information from the speedo to the ECU, so if you want to alter the ECU speed input, you can still do so. But it won’t change the speedo reading.

So we have the mechanical rotating cable. damn oh well ill wait till the ej and get another speedo. I want the bigger wheels but i don't want my speedo out of whack. Only other thing I can think of would be to make a faceplate for my speedo with the correct speeds on it and bugger off the old one but that's heaps more effort.

whiteout on the plastic dash cover thingo wuld work..or testing it out with a GPS seeing wt it is and remembering afterwards. (say 100 on the speedo is only 95 on the GPS and etc)


alos are u gettin an EJ20 conversion now instead of an EJ22? turbo or not?

I was thinking cutting the old speedo face panel out and printing my own so the numbers light up properly at night.. And instead of GPS I'll probably be running along side a mates car instead.


I'm just thinking an N/A EJ20 conversion now. Should be enough power for me. Then down the road I'll probably get the rest of the drive line done too. Only thing I'm worried about now is will I have enough brake power with stock Brumby brakes. But yeah I'm getting a bit off topic now haha.

I'm sure there's a mechanical device you can put in line with your speedo cable that will increase the speedo reading accordingly. Check it out with your local 4wd mob, they'll know.

Yep there definitely is, I've seen two L series wagons with them installed (one is Lapsed current wagon, although I think his cable is snapped anyway).

Not sure where to get them tho. Its basically just a tiny box that goes in the middle of the speedo cable somewhere with an adjustable reduction drive gearset in it.

Ok that sounds good then now I don't have to hack my instrument cluster.

I pulled apart a subaru speedo once and noticed that the tension on the hairspring can be adjusted a bit. there is a little slidy lever that moves about 8mm

yep there is. VDO make it and a few local speedo shops here in brissy carry them.

What's the price like?

$60-80. depends.

thats well worth it to have an accurate speedo again. I just got mine accurate again (through other methods) after years of it being out and its damn nice.
