With all the track closures these days, where does a man go to get his 4b repainted in a nice browny or sandy colour? There doesnt seem to be many places left (whilst still being legit) that we can wheel in.

I mainly go up the beach. Apparently the 4x4 parks are good ie Landcruiser Mountain Park.

Not sure where you are, or if you are just starting a post about where to go offroading.
Anyway, In SA I know of a few places. Peake, never been there though. Fishery Beach down at cape jervis. And theres a place near halletcove. Been there once, was wicked. Not for how legal. But there was a few people there in the crusers and bikes. Its under the expressway and goes towards the coast.
If anyone plans on going anywhere in SA, give me a PM. I'll see if I can come along too!

You can get permits to drive into restricted access state forests. We went past one during the BBQ - Bellthorpe has some nice tracks.. as does Mt Mee (very close to the final destination of the BBQ).
But yes - they do seem to get fewer and fewer.

Sorry guys...forgot...I'm in Qld.
Yeah we went down a ''restricted access'' track in the forest to get to the swimming hole. Was well worth it though.

Thats why I have a "Permit to Traverse" for Mt Mee State Forest - where that swimming hole is
Its easy to get the permit from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Just tick all the boxes for the parks on the form.

Chris, there was HEAPS of tracks I saw when I was driving around, most were restricted access - but that is just a permit away. Lot's of real good looking tracks too.

Download this Word document and print it out. Instant Permit Application

The address you send it to is on the form
Download Document Here
Just be aware you have to pre-book at that campsite (Archer campground) - you can do that on line at

There are some tracks at Johnson rd Browns plains, there is every thing hill climbes to smooth to rough it's goverment land but heeps of 4b's and bikes go there with out any problem. The entrance is near the T intersection of Johnson rd and Dickman rd not far from the Liberty servo.
