EA82T...with an Intercooler

I saw something interesting the other day.....an 'L' with an EA82 Turbo, but the standard plenum chamber was replaced by an EJ INTERCOOLER along with a larger turbo....

I wonder just how much better performance this would produce for the ol EA82T....??

:o

Probably about the same difference as putting premium fuel into a new Corolla as opposed to standard fuel =)

(I saw the advert for the new Corolla just before...100kw, isn't that about the same as an EA82t??)

Check out the USMB and do a search for intercooler, you will find plenty.

Its more common in australia to go an RS liberty 'water to air' intercooler, that way, you dont need a "cop magnet" bonnet scoop.

Just an intercooler by itself wont yeld you a heap of power, but the cooler air charge will allow you to increase boost a little or avance timing, and that will yeld more pony power

Yep , I reckon water IC , best factory cams you can find and some sort of interceptor to get around the std computers tune and injector limitations . The std airbox with a good element would breathe cooler denser air than an under bonnet pod and provided that its inlet snorkle caused no pressure drop there's no performance penalty .

Also a word of warning . The only IHI RHB52 I've gutted had a bent turbine shaft and a badly cracked turbine housing so I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to crank the boost up very much . IMO the only things worth salvaging from that particular turbo was the compressor housing and its inlet elbow .
I'd like to see if it fits the later IHI ball bearing turbos like the VF36 because if I can make twin header pipes and feed them to the twin scroll turbine housing I think the results would be good . BTW twin scroll systems run noticably lower exhaust manifold pressure and EGT than single scroll systems unless their turbine housings are large .

Cheers A .
