My own a brumby, my brother owns a 4runner (close enough to a hilux.)
Brumby's on 2" lift and has 4" oversized mud terrain tyres (27" OD).
4runner's on 2.5" lift and 5" oversized mud terrain tyres (35" OD)
On road, yes the Brumby kicks the living s*%# out of the 4runner.
Offroad, it's another story.. The 4runner goes much further. Much easier too. And hes bought $800 of auto lockers for it and it's getting boosted soon. With the front locker in, there is no way even a Brumby with a welded rear would go up the same hills this truck can.
Don't get me wrong, I love the subie. And I would pick it over the 4runner straight away at the moment. But if I had the cash I'd be driving down the road in a better street car and offroadin in something like my brothers 4runner.
And as for those people that go on about Subaru's being cheap, his trucks cost less with both auto lockers then mine has. But EJ22 and AWD rocks!
The lux's are good, but they are just for another purpose/kind-of-person.
