Hey all,

First post here, so go easy on my lack of technical knowledge please.

I am just wondering what my options are to control some minor rust in my (first) l series wagon. Their are two problem areas, one is the top of the windscreen panel, only minor surface rust. And the second more concerning section is the rear quater panel, has significant rust, bubbly paint etc. Seems to be that some mud/water got in between the rear panel, you can pull the floor in the boot up and see it (dirt). So my question is, can you replace this panel, or are panel replacement very hard, and id be better of cutting and welding in new section. When i find a camera i can post a pic up if it will help.

have alook at this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/sho ... hp?t=49946 for your rear quarter.The rust above the winscreen i would just spray a rust converter that primes the surface until the windscreen needs to come out and then you can get into.

Hadnt found that site before at all, so thanks doubly for hooking me up their. Thats the exact spot where the rust is to, must be reasonably common?? Will give something to do over the semester break.....

Thanks for the welcome, im studying in tassy at the moment, used to be from around your way, buninyong to be precise (i know not exactly very close, but still) also spend alot of my time in NSW too as thats where my folks live. Just got my first car, which is a 1988 l series, pretty stoked...

beware... like most people seem to find, it's a bad thing getting a suby as your first car because they're so damn hard to part with. I've owned 1 car in my life in the same period that friends have owned 6 or 7... it's almost like being monogamous with your girlfriend since highschool in your late 20s... you kinda wonder whether you're missing out on anything, but any time you go for a ride you realise you're more than happy with what you've got :P

the surface rust can be scrubbed back with any old piece of sand paper, and bunnings sells White Knight Rust Guard paint in a spray can in dozens of colours. Flat white suits the mid 80s subys rather well
