I went to the local parts store and priced some new complete shafts, a whopping $250 each.

Im just curious where you get yours and what you pay for them?

Where from may I ask?
Does having RX running gear mean I need a diferent part?
Anyone actually using the ones advertised on ebay???

im using some from ebay.
id u are running RX gear then u will need a RX shaft which are 25 spline on the inner cup apposed to 23 for the N/A gearbox. Sadly part numbers are the same for turbo and non turbo shafts, ull just have to stress your point across that u need the RX shaft with the 25 spline inner cup. not the 23.

Your sh!tting me! the part numbers are the same? so they gotta take it out of the box/bag and count the spline grooves?

The ebay ones that come from Kempsey are crap, splines are loose and the cv's don't have a retainer ring = bad news if you have more strut lift than body lift.

So avoid kempsey, otherwise quality is not much of an issue?

yeah, ultracheapauto I think is their ebay id. Both myself and Gannon have had poor quality product from them. Also, the hole for the spring pin is too large and the pin falls through...

Note that the MPFI shafts are also 25 spline (even tho its non-turbo).

Yeah, avoid Ultracheapauto.

I will try repco, although i want a FT4wd box, so im unsure if i should go out and buy new shafts for my carb box.

BTW, when i got those prices, there were partlistings for both carb (23spline) and MPFI/Turbo(25spline)

Gannon - If you are putting an L Series Full Time box into a standard L (not an RX) and want complete shafts - you need MPFI shafts. Turbo and MPFI shafts differ on the outer cv i believe.

Outers are the same no matter what, inners are different. For fulltime box he'll need RX inners. I believe that liberty inners will also work (anyone?)

The only advice im gonna ofer is dont buy cheap **** :)....after going through 5 Cheap shafts in the matter of 2 weeks, then purchasing a good new $200 one i never had an issue again with it..

as the other have said...no retaining clip = disaster, kept tearing boots, all sorts of dramas.. The best will always be genuine subaru gear...but at the price i got over here in perth ($390 for a single LIB RS Turbo shaft), either u want quality or u dont...and i made the mistake not once but 5 times ...

From my experience, If not buying the entire shaft, RX inners will not be enough. I have travelled this road. I had the RX cups ready to put into my L for my gearbox conversion (25 spline) - but the RX cups were too big too fit onto the ball of the standard L shaft. It must be my mistake about the outers however (apologies) - but unless I was given the wrong ones to start with - RX cups will not fit on the standard ball. I think Postie is also an expert on CVs now after his conversion.

I can vouch for the RipEveryPoorCootOff shafts. They come with a 5 year 100,000km warranty. I have replaced each side three times under that warranty and have to put up a fight to get them replaced each time, the last time when it was four years old the smart arse then tries to tell me it is pro rata warranty, not 4 4WD, NO,

NOT ACCORDING TO COPY OF THE INVOICE , sir. So, phuc-q!

their supplier is national parts, as is autopro who sell 'em 20poocent cheaper ! don't think ap give same warranty.

not sure what crap I' buy next
