SORRY. The title is a bit misleading...but would be nice to know as a result of this post no more of our steads go astray.


In light of the most recent rrrrrshole act of the theft and write off of Svens pride and joy, and that of others mentioned here over the years, I reckon we should share our preferred security arrangements without risking theft because we shared ( so don't tell us where your secret button is !!)

As a visible and strong deterent I use the old faithful club lock as the fuzz stats show it reduces chances by 90%, or so I am told.

To further enhance that, turn the lock so it faces the dash or floor.

I also use the Sydney method of leaving glovebox OPEN and EMPTY (lights out ! ) notice some also fold a nice white handtowel to attract the attention of said empty open box before the fugger smashes/fuggs something.

Also remove CD faceplate. PITA

I have those dead lockable Solex high tech locks on the doors.

Then there is the Kmart two wire simple alarm to which I should have a magnetic switch sewn into my tarp coz some little fugger/s decided to see what was under it last Friday night. Thankful they were not smart enuff to undo the press studs.

$16 for a set of lock nuts on the wheels


I have seen some bloody ingenious kill switches over the years for ignition.

The most simplest and ingenious I will keep to myself because I am going to use it when something goes turbo. It had the NRMA, the dealer, the auto electrician or two, me and a few mechanics stumped - absolutely. Not even a new coil or module fixed it in a week !! The previous owner had to be contacted.

I had a couple of hazard stickers made up, white diamonds with "infectious substance" and biohazard symbol- very professional looking.

Because of what happened to svens pride and joy I had booked in to get an alarm/immobiliser fitted tomorrow morning, but if the club locks are as effective as you say, should I just go ahead and get one of those in place of the alarm?

i lock the computer... and also have switch hidden some where for when i dont turn the computer off

When my car used to live in melbourne i hooked up a flashing red LED on the dash to look like I had an alarm / imobiliser haha

julian nothing moves a decent club lock short of a hacksaw, but i guess if they had to break the windows to get in, they're probably not overly concerned about having the steering wheel in one piece, who knows. Though you can get the former fixed without much fuss.

along the lines of the empty glove box i've seen people leave a note on the dash or taped to a window saying "NO CDS NO CASH NO POINT" or similar, like many shop premises have on the front door.

back in brissy i used to leave the old girl unlocked, often with a window down, so the 'tards wouldn't break a window to find nothing worth stealing. Apart from what that does to your insurance.. I've lately been told leaving your car unlocked is now a bookable offence in qld. bummer.

i have nothing apart from the immob. but ive heard kill switches are easy to install. i was thinking about doing that before.

i have a professional subarino alarm...motion sensors, shock sensors, severely loud siren..and cos i have central locking i have taken all the bars off the locks, so no matter how much you pry at the lock it will never open the door...i have a security tint as well...makes it harder to smash the glass i think.

Well decided to go a kill switch kit with very nicely hidden micro switch running a relay that immobilises the car. Auto armed when ignition turned off. Might go the clubby as well though...

I have the best deterant of all, I tell my mother in law to sit in the car when me & the Mrs go out.

Forgot to say if it is a really rough area, she sit naked (she's five foot tall and about 6 foot wide and weighs 95 kg )in the car even more of a deterant.

I'll go to sleep tonight hoping dearly for your sake that she does not clandestinely lurk on this site.
