5 speed into MY, done it ? look in here please

It is smack on two years since i fitted my L series 5 speed into my Brumby (with loads of cyberspace help from ausubaru guys ) and have only just figured i did something wrong and wondering if you have also done same thing.

I used the Brumby cross member with modded Brumby mounts each side. when the box went in it sort of tipped the engine forward and down at the front so my custom gas intake pipe rubbed on the radiator for a coupla kms.

The wrong thing i did to rectify this was to wind the engine to body stay until i had original clearance and i think ever since have had this rough Noise, Vibration, Harshness i not been able to identify

i am thinking engine is pushing against this stay something severe, or stay is holding engine back from drooping.

i elongated the holes in gearbox mount up and down but now thinking i shoulda angle the elongation to rectify the droop instead.

anyone else experience this harshness in their conversions??

I can't really help you, I modded the L series Xmember and everything more or less kept the stock angles, ran with no issues relating to this for about 2 years.

I have done the 5 speed conversion as u have done.... my ride does feel a little harsh but i put it down to the 1 million mods i had done on the suspension and running gear.... i see what you are saying now and i think i will look into it further.

Perhaps we can simply space the gear box crossmember down a little some how. Are you running a lift kit jono?? I wonder if the gear box lift kit blocks (which are usually 1 inch smaller than the rest of the kit) would also be contributing to this problem.

Im not sure how much spacing may be required but it may be a matter of 1cm making a world of difference.

Are we on the same page or am i rambling off topic?

Another thing i found was my gear box was basically pressing down on my gear box crossmember whilst under load.... i droped my crossmember once and found a nice clean area where it has been rubbing at times.

was thinking of Jordan when authoring the above novel and remembered he had made his own x member, so custom made would create little drama.

and Dave, yep when i did up my gearbox mounts some force was needed to line things up (next time i remove the stay for this job) and my Brumby is standard height but i did end up shoving in some 5 mm spacers between the rear subframe and body chassis trying to clear the knob on the box that i did not cut off until later. think it is time i reviewed how i did it and clean a few things up. my harshness definitely sorta comes from the upper part of the firewall in the middle where the stay fits. and i get it thru the gear stick too.

teeth ain't rattled out yet !!
