Advice needed - trailers

I am thinking about going halves with a mate in a box trailer of some description. We have had a trailer borrowed off another mate for about 3 months now and its clear we need one of our own. Main uses are furniture, engines / car parts and green waste (mate jsut bought a house)

I am considering trying to find an aluminium ute tray and building a chassis for it, although the cost of steel these days puts me off.

the trailer I am currently using has front and rear doors, and has tilt. I want both of these if i can.

The other option is track down a standard 6x4 or 7x5 trailer and modify the front door and add tilt to it. these seem to sell pretty often for about $300.

anyone got any recommendations ?

If you are going from scratch or renovating, put a long drawbar on it, it makes them heaps easier to reverse and they track better underway.

See what you can do about having the same size wheels on the trailer as the tow vehicle.
Ditto the drawbar. Front towbars are brilliant too.

Front towbars would be very close to being illegal if they aren't already. Just learn to reverse properly.

Yes, theres something about having fixed protruding objects from the front bar ?.....I think even fishing rod holders are now illegal?

I grew up owning boats so my reversing skills are **** hot

if anyone spots a cheap ally tray anywhere please let me know. I am thinking maybe pickles damaged vehicle auctions I might be able to find a written off ute cheap.

I read you can have fishing rod holders aslong as they dont protrude forwards at all, but they all seem to stick out a bit

Some good bright reversing lights on the trailer would be good too, aswell as the car. Ive also found that cage trailers are alot easier to see when unloaded and reversing, and you can fit some much more crap in them.

Another good idea I saw was some wheel holders on the A section near the hitch to fit motorbike front wheels, so the back wheel is on the trailer but much further forwards, giving more room at the back of the trailer for other things, might be hard to achive if you cage the trailer though, maybe you could hinge it at the front so it folds flat to the floor.
