EA82 T turbo pipe diameter preferences??
It is now almost time for me to choose which turbo pipe I use on my rebuild. To go in my GLTA before fitting up to a Brumby
The outlet diameters to choose from are 35mm or 41mm. This is the inside dia. of the pipe just under where turbo fits
I believe the 35mm will produce better boost and torque at lower revs and thinking of the 2800 torque peak of this motor - will be my best choice.
Thinking the 41mm will be a rip snorter up higher in the revs (more the racerboy thing than my Brumby needs, but then again '666' )
Not being an easy swap once motor is installed I wanna get it right first off.
Have you swapped from 35mm to 41mm or vice versa just to see the difference and willing to share?
I think the 35mm was on GLTA EA82T and the 41mm on the Vortex EA82T

I would be sceptical about enlarging the X over pipe diameter as with t e turbo motor you want the hottest gasses that are still expanding hitting the turbine blades so getting it there quick is the name of the game. Besides in 20years of rallying them no one went bigger in search of power although ill hedge bets here its always fun to experiment.

SWK, you got me wrong, just talking about the hole difference between what appears to be aus delivery EA82 and imported EA82T Vortex motors.
The crossover turbo pipe is same diameter on both, it is just the size of the hole just below turbo mounts that is larger 41mm on the Vortex motors
did vortex turbo go better than RX EA82's ??

Getting the turbo spinnig earlier will net you more torque earlier in the peace but if you already have big tyres fitted and use the smaller hole at the turbo you will have good usable power around 1200rpm. (not taken off dyno just seat of the pants with a standard EA82T, EA82 NA in similar touring wagon and a standard RX) The Lifted turbo touring wagon was quicker off the mark and was easier on the clutch at hill starts.
