Lifted Lib cops abuse from Landrover driver.

Was driving along a remote rough track over Easter, heading to a bushwalking area. It was one of the roughest tracks I have had the Lib on but at no stage did I bottom out, and was able to crawl around and over the biggest rocks. For the Tasweigians it was to Olive Lagoon in behind Bronte Park.
Nearing the end we passed a Landrover Defender parked by the track, it didn't seem that rough from there on so I kept going. Later on as I was out of the car checking the line around a particularly rocky section Mr Landrover appears walking back to his car. Turns out he had decided that the track was a bit rough so started his bushwalk early. We walked together back to my car and once he realised it was a Subie the tyrade started. "Oh, you've jacked it up a bit, that just makes them handle really badly on the road" I replied that no, it went very well on the road. He then peered underneath and began telling me how "pissweak" the Subie suspension was and that I was in danger of bending something as soon as I hit a big rock. Being a beleiver of the motto "Actions speak louder than words" in such situations I jumped in and left him to the sweet sound of a boxer EJ20T burbleing off into the distance while he continued his walk back to his super tough Landrover.
Here is a pic of one of the smaller bogs, in winter some look like they would swallow a car whole.

whilst that may be right, it only takes a handful of spare parts to fix problems,
even spare cross members don't take up that much room......
now with a larger 4by it only takes a bigger rock or something to bust things...and its a major bigger problem to fix things, everything is heavier,
the broken bits break in a bigger way... etc...
lol,i better stop there b4 i talk meself out of future intentions...
IMO a lot of big 4wd drivers don't know **** in driving off-road, and only got the big 4wd to be king **** of the paved road...**** idiots.

As you so rightly proved, the "proof is in the pudding". Good on you for not getting hot under the collar.

On the weekends trip to Double Island we saw many "Real" 4wds stuck in the softer sand and Byron was even told by the Ranger that he had no hope of making a particular track (he had come that same track to get to the beach not 4 hours earlier) to the end.

His pride was obviously dented, he was then telling me that as a mechanic he knew these things and that the only decent independent suspension 4wd's was on the Paris Dakar BMW's. I did mention that the Subie suspension seems to cope well with the abuse it gets in group N rallies etc but he thought that rallying wasn't any where near as harsh as the track I was on. While it may have been rough I was going at less than walking pace in spots so hardly comparable to getting air at 150KPH in a rally. It was a laugh really, as I usually get positive comments about the car from non subaru owners.

We can't all be so pissweak as to drive the "best 4WD" out there so there's as little chance of getting stuck as possible... Obviously the "big guy" couldn't stomach a challenge.
