A new direction for the Wonder Brumby II

Post by BRUMBERTY » Wed Feb 14, 2007 3:26 pm

Soul searching is what I have been doing, big decisions are made for us and that's the way I have to go... with the flow.

I WILL be having less $$$$ to spend on the Wonder Brumby.
That's guarenteed.

After spending Saturday racing the WB against RS boys I have been inspired to continue my quest with belts and LPG.

There is soo many cheap parts out there in EJ22 land, I can't justify going up into the price bracket of EJ20 stuff.

I am decompressing the EJ22 with a set of EJ20 slugs and rods,
Adding another gas tank,
an AWIC,
a smaller blower pulley
and going to PHASE TWO.

Lseries low range, rear handbrake, locked diff.

And then (with zero rust) going for engineering with the lot, as I have found the engineer of dreams.

I thrashed her and thrashed her and thrashed her, and she didn't miss a beat.
Then caned her all the way home.
How do you replace that?

This motor loves me and she will love me more with 12 or 14 psi of boost.(maths is sketchy)
I am using big, thick and pricey head gaskets (hermatic?).

Sorry Ian, I guess I didn't grow up at all.

EJ22 Dual range AWD lifted, widened and much happier now thanks very much.

1991 L Series wagon, white and perfectly normal apart from the ticking, no I think that is normal.

Jet boat..webbered EA81 with a hybrid tin dish welded and glued to it.

I take it someone has lined up plenty of ej22 spares in between showing the RS lads what else a subaru can do.

I don't think the engine will like you at all 12-14 psi, but you sure will. And if you have few laying around on the shelf... why not?

5 or 4(well 6) stud rear handbrake? can get some suitable calipers for the 4s for nicks if ya want.

matt matt matt

i really hate to say this as im the one who is really geen to see a super and turbocharged high comp 25, and watch you blow it sky high with a huge on yer face.... BUT

if you need to be cutting back on the spendature then you need reliability

youve gotta make something bulletproof.. and you know its not going to get grannied around the place

now the standard ej20 of the turbo variety on the stock computer and boost levels should run all day every day

now some questions for you...
are you going to go to some form of electronic engine management?
is the extra boost down low going to affect anything?
what comp ratios do you end up with ej20 internals in the ej22 block?
is it going to run fine without the water injection for those long trips when it runs out?

if you get the brumby engineered with the chassis rails widened a bit, then all you have to do when something goes wrong is pick up a cheap wrx engine quite often see low kay imports go for a grand or less, and there shouldnt be any problems running a blower through them.

as opposed to finding another ej22, ej20 internals, new gaskets and bits and peices to bolt it all together.. and a lot of stuffing around

anyways... just thinking out loud
cheers
