censorship gone too far ??

Post by steptoe » Sat Feb 03, 2007 3:19 pm

listening to the radio the other day, Austen Tayshus diatribe from the early eighties "Australiana" gets the words ****atoo C O C K A T O O and platypus P L A T Y P U S or something very similar sounding, get bleeped out. For crying out loud. Over done or what. I just discovered we cannot use the word C O C K R O A C H without spacing in this forum, nor the name shorter for Richard beginning with D i c k. If this is a US based web is J o hn son also banned?

penis ain't banned , yet .

In badminton, players hit the shuttle**** back and forth.

When i was last on the Gold coast, the radio was playing that 'panic at the disco' song and they beeped out "god damn" but left in the word "whore"
On our local radio station, "whore" is the word that is beeped out.

I think people are becoming too politically corrective sensitive

There are a few other examples but i cant think of them now.

Oh yeah, this one "Where are the Bloody Hell are you?"

I'd beep out the entire "Panic! At the Disco" playlist if I could.

What it comes down to is that we should all show respect to all the members that read the board by not using language that we should know would offend some of those that read it .

Yes, that's the bottom line, not all that is said on this or any other site that l've seen could actually be called Child friendly all of the time. Your point, whatever that be can be made just as easily if not better by using the, (boy l hate this saying), Queens English, Embellishments show nothing and are certainly not intelligent.
If we all could say what we think the earth would be in a continual state of war.
Another example, Talk about religion and political involvement is banned, on this and most other sites, my opinion, thank whomeverthatbe, although some consider these viable subject matter, it bores the s**t out of me and everybody l know and is not why we log on.
Some censorship is alway ness, the hard bit is getting the balance right so as not to offend but also to guarantee the concept of free speech.
Well thats my bus, l'll pull my head in.

what ever happened to "sticks and stones will break my bones but names can never hurt me"
If its the minority that are offended then the majority rule, minority can get over it!
however I would never swear when children are around,
Anyway words are not affective unless they have an effect or reaction, so the more people take offence to some words the more it will be used by people, thats a fact.
people need to grow up.
If you run, you will only die tired!!

I'm not sure what's going on here? are people just having a play with words or is there genuine concern over the censoring of words like shuttle**** ?

shuttle**** can be used in an analogy for a subaru. for instance:

"Johns Leone somehow broke his engine block so badly, that his pistons resembled shuttle****s as they were flailing around inside the engine bay".

so can ****roach:

"John is a ****roach for letting his Leone reach such a state"
