Recon ea82t heads???

I took my heads to the engine recon shop to be tested and cleaned up,.. they told me the cracks between the valves are gonna leak.

They advised me to get a set of recon heads for $1100,... no that is not a typo!!! (they have a 1yr guarantee)

Anybody know this place or anywhere else that i can recon heads, preferibly cheaper than $1100

BTW,... im not keen on an ej as yet. I want the fun of rebuilding this motor (plus it was a new years resolution not to take the easy way out and EJ it)

I have 3 heads that i know do not have cracks, plus a mpfi motor complete. I took 2 of the heads to the engine reconditioner, and he told me that the cracks between the valves will leak, could be 5 years from now, could be 10 minutes after i put the motor in my car.

So i considered these reco heads cos i know im gonna get a good run out of them.

I just cant decide what to do. I dont wanna throw my heads on if they are gonna cause trouble.

I've read that most of the time the heads are cracked and it doesn't really matter. I think I read that the cracks are so small that the amount of temp to open them up would probably blow the engine up anyhow.

Theres always a risk, weather they aren't cracked yet or they are. Unless you put an EA81 in, tough as a rock... ;)

it is gonna depend on just where cracks are if it is only between intake and exhaust ports , well, carbon might just seal things up and if cracks were not causing the initial problem but check out allhead service in Melbourne, might be allhead.com.au or allheadservice.com.au 440 or so dollars a pair of serviced, welded, guaranteed . you may need to negotiate a 'club' price

and ..I was able to test one of my EA82Ts compression to be 10kpa off perfectand discovered head gaskets were fine, heads were cracked between ports and the cause of water in cylinders appeared to stuffed intake manifold gaskets...so I coulda shoulda in hindsight just replace intake gaskets and sucked and see

when a shop wants 70 to heat up and crack test a head things start adding up. exchange warranted heads start to sound good idea...in theory

Ive heard that too,... but the guy at the shop ensures me that they do crack... and leak,... so i dont know who to believe.

Is 10kpa a bad thing,.. if it is, what caused it,.... the headcracks????

I mite give allhead a ring,... see what they think

Thanks guys

Has he every owned a EA82t? I would trust the word from someone who has, what ever that word may be. Don't trust me, I have never owned one and plan not to, I like EA81's..

spec was 990kpa, i got 980 so under compression test the cracks meant nothing, but had shiny bores still gave A1 compression readings. block may get a deglaze and rebuild one day
