Help me choose, what to do?

Howdy all.
In feb I am doing a major mechanical swapperoo from the Wonder Brumby to a new donor Body.
Rust is imbedded further than I can deal with.

The WBII will be a 89 without the targa top.
Currently the WBI has an LPG and a Blower on a pretty basic EJ22.
The LPG thing is wonderful but a pain for me as the nearest gas is 40kms away.

I have decided that the gas system will be sold, attached to an EA81 when WBI goes.

So I need to work out what to do regarding going back to petrol.
Options...
1) EJ22 block, SOHC EJ25 heads and inlet, intercooler and computor.

2) EJ22 totally, intercooler, electronic distributor and current boost contol set up.
3) Hybrid a turbo set up onto it with some EJ20 bits and bobs.

I am hoping to retain the push type clutch and keep the lib dual range box.

Option 1 !!!
Lower compression equals more boost.
Better flowing heads and manifold.
Strong well balanced block

the above make this sound like a good option

Option 2 would be easier but not as fun when finished

Option 3 Everyone turbos, be individual

u gotta make things complicated dont you matt

so youre keeping the blower on whichever motor u end up using?

sounds like you need a stroked 2.5 with your blower and a turbo aswell for the top end!

and a lot of fun tuning :p

I like my blower Johnnie, its fun.
Still hoping too not adjust the frame rails either.
Groover wants his tray back, the bottle is huge.
I want to be able to sleep in there again when camping
(allergic to jack jumpers).

Its all a learning process.

Elaborate on option 3 , do you mean, ej22 turbo, or ej22 turbo + supercharger? :)

Casting my vote for option two with the standard coil pack untill its ticking over nicely.

Then upgrading to an EJ22TZ at a later date.

No- option three was the unthinkable.....removing said belt power and going hairdryer.

I would say option one but while you've got it apart put the EJ25 rods and crank in there too.

Jordan.

sorry for the hijack but will the ej25 crank and rods fit into a ej22 and turn it into an ej25?

From what I've read the EJ25's have a larger bore than all the other EJ's as well as a longer stroke, by using the EJ25 crank and rods in any other EJ it increases the capacity by more or less 0.1L, not enough to go out of your way for, but if you've got the engine apart anyway do it while you're there.

Not sure what this does to compression ratio though.

Jordan.

Keep it simple Matt. EJ20T factory loom and ECU with a small boost increase. You won't know yourself with the reliability and simplicity. What is happening to the old shell?

Ahh Ian I think you may be right.

I am selling the beast with EA81/4speed mechanicals ala the rego.

3"/2" lift, dual fuel, lib seats, weber, 14" dessert rats.

Would look at offers with EJ22 in situ.

DONE AND DUSTED

I have decided and committed to an EJ20T and rex drivertain.
53,000 kms JDM 1999 model.
how many KWs do they put out?

I got a steal of a deal.

i knew you would end up with cut chassis rails :p

and isnt a rex engine with a turbo a bit to normal for you matt!

Well done, now get a water to air IC and keep the stealth look without a bonnet scoop. Did you get the loom and ECU with it? The jap ones were meant to be good for 170-180 on their fuel.

JDM computor, loom, top mount (good call with the air/water iC).
I can get ultimate here in Swansea now so fuel should be all good.

Less time to spend under the bonnet now I am afraid.
No more experimenting on the primary wheels.

Thanks for the advice Ian.
