Just Drying the Car!!!

Post by leebag » Mon Nov 20, 2006 7:25 pm

When to go was my car this evening and i love those new drive-in car washes so quick!!. So on the way home my missus starts to so "You're Going to fast!" i said " i'm just trying dry my car!" Then the down hill run on the way i home i PUSHED IT A BIT, the missus just closed her eyes and held on. So i pushed through the gears and kept my foot flat on the down hill 180 Km/h before i had to brake. This was flying the car was becoming a bit unstable to, which is worrying when doing those speeds!!!
So a question to you all " how fast have you pushed your L-series ?"

i have a '87 rx turbo with just the ea-82t, so come on guys tell us all!!.
P.S i don't condone this type of tomfoolery (but comeon it's heaps of fun!)

Before the lift kit the L would do 170 downhill, that's a carby NA EA82 and I wasn't too worried about stability or anything.

I got my old MY wagon up to 180 once and it broke a pushrod, then when I popped the hood to see what happened noticed both CV joint boots had shredded and there was grease everywhere!

I regularly had my old MY upto 185, not quite sure they were ever meant for that sort of speed.

The outback started to get floaty at 195 so I backed off.

Got booked doing 145, thats why I couldn't come to the bbq

I remember someone pacing an MY with 'extras' at 242 kph - but that must've been in the NT somewhere .) .)

The RX-7 on the otherhand, well I was going faster than the WRX next to me that was going 220. I can't tell for sure though because my speedo was hard up against the pin and reading 180.

When I owned my old RX (that Subi Wan Kenobi now owns) and we lived in the NT first time 'round, I had the opportunity to exploit the unrestricted speed zones a few times.

The best I got from the RX was:
185ish with 3 people and a full esky on board; and
160 with the trailer attached (trailer pretty much empty!)

As for other cars I've owned whilst up here:
MY06 Subaru Forester XT - 220;
'94 Mitsubishi Galant, 2.0l V6 - 215;
'91 Mits Pajero 3.0l V6 - 180
'97 Mits Pajero 3.5l V6 - 190 (the fuel gauge was moving faster than the speedo!)
'81 Honda Accord 1.6l - 180
Current EA82T L series - a huge 110!

Passenger in a GTR Skyline with an Autometer Speedo - 245

The bad news up here is that as of January, they are imposing speed restrictions on all our roads. The Highway will get 130 kph limit, which has upset alot of people up here. Alot of petitions have been raised in response to this issue. The oposition have said they will re-introduce un restricted limits if they are voted in, however I don't really believe them. One reason the govt has introduced the new limits was because of pressure from Canberra, who said if we wanted funding for roads, then one condition is to introduce speed limits.

So if you want to explore the limits of your cars legally, you had better come up this way before January 07.
Willie.
