did my good deed for the day.

Post by stinky » Sun Oct 29, 2006 7:33 pm

I was driving along Ipswich Rd just before marooka ( going from the city ) and Suddenly all I could smell was petrol. Convinced I'd just sprung a leak I was about to pull over when I noticed it was actually dripping from the Forester in front of me. He was just about to turn right so I followed him and stopped him.

Told him he was leaking, and got the engine turned off. A quick inspection showed a missing hose clamp and a hose that had slipped off slightly breaking the seal. I shoved it back on deep and followed him to a servo a couple hundred meters away.

I went in looking for hose clamps and the best they had was zip ties. I grabbed a bag and got back under the car. The hose in question had a weird end, looked like it was supposed to clip to something rather than having a standard hose clamp and it was hard plastic so I couldn't tighten it with a zip tie. Ended up zip tying around it, then using 8 or so zip ties around something a bit forward on the loose end of the zip tie to try and hold it forward so it wouldn't let it slip off again.

Told him to go straight home ( not far ) and go to a mechanic first thing tomorrow morning. He started waving $50 at me saying my shirt was ruined and he'd pay for a new one, I told him not to worry about it, was my pleasure to help as a fellow subaru driver.

One for the Karma Bank.

Good on ya mate.

Do you stop to help people who are stopped on the side of the road?

I hate it when your stuck in the middle of no-where and no one stops to even see if you need help. Used to happen all the time in my '78 lancer (didn't really look after that one well)

stinky is going to get a fuel leak now!?!!! :p

nah good work! i hate it when people don't stop... or worse, they slow down to look and when they see that you're really F***ed they just keep on driving...

sometimes pulling over isn't the best idea though... one time i pulled over to help out a older toyota van out... they were pulled over in the worst spot and i figured at least i could haul them over to the parking lot only a half block away...

well during this time a phone company (telus) was having a huge strike because of lost jobs... my school is right beside the telus head office...

so when i asked if they needed help some shady looking individuals poked their heads out the windows and first said thanks (they were happy folk) but then replied, "nah we're just stalking these telus scum bags!"

oh... ok... well i'll see you around then...*bolts back to the brat and locks the doors*

most times people are nice and not insane though...
